NYTimes Prints Lies

I found this in today's NYTimes Letters section:

Over the last 12 months, radical Palestinian groups have largely observed a unilateral cease-fire, in spite of a large number of assassinations and acts of random violence perpetrated by Israeli forces.

Christian Haesemeyer
Champaign, Ill.

So, being who (whom?) I am, I sent the following:-

Christian Haesemeyer asserts, in error, that "over the last 12 months, radical Palestinian groups have largely observed a unilateral cease-fire" (letters, Feb. 6). Largely?

While the death by stabbing of a woman in a taxi the day before his letter was published was unknown to Haesemeyer, the statistics since January 2005 are readily available. Fifty civilians, Jews, Arabs and foreign workers, were killed in 23 separate successful incidents of Palestinian terror in Israel and the disputed territories.

These occurred as a result of four suicide bombings, Kassam shellings, drive-by shootings, stabbings and other violent means. Two soldiers were additionally killed in terros attacks.

Media reports indicate almost daily attempts by other terrorists than have been halted that have included young children transporting explosives, tunnel-digging, construction of bomb laboratories, premature failed suicide bombings and much more.
