Jewish Morality in War

Above is the most recent pronouncement by the Va'ad Rabanei Yesha, the Council of the Rabbis of YESHA (*).

Briefly, it calls upon the government to vanquish the enemy and not dilly-dally at a time of battle with Christian morality.

It suggest that a unity government be established to fight the real enemy, to invalidate the evictions notices and the intention to continue to exile Jewish residents of the area as well as halt the administrative detentions.

It insists that the recent events stem from the weakness of our hold over the roots of the holy land.

It supports the government's policy of not freeing Arab prisoners based on Halachic considerations (see Tal. Bab. Gittin 45, and Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh Dei'ah, Para. 252)of not paying too high a price which would only entice the enemy to continue this practice. The public is called upon to pray for the soldiers' welfare and those wounded, expecially Psalm 130.
