The Word from Scandinavia

You probably have heard the claim "that it's too bad Israel is not Scandinavia".

The implication is that in those countries, the atmosphere is calm.

But I took a look at a map of the area:


The distance between western Norway and eastern Finland is approximately 1000+ kilometers.

My question is simple: why, within that area, there need be three separate states?  The Norwegians, Swedes and Finns can't get together but they know how to advise us how to live together?
