Netanyahu Is Going To Have To Face This One Down

He can't escape this time:

Israel told to halt east Jerusalem housing project
By AMY TEIBEL (AP) – 2 hours ago

JERUSALEM — The U.S. has demanded that Israel suspend a planned housing project in east Jerusalem, senior Israeli officials said Sunday — the latest sign of a deepening conflict between the two allies over Israeli settlements.

The officials confirmed that Israel's ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, was summoned to the State Department over the weekend and told that the project being developed by American millionaire Irving Moskowitz should not go ahead.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss with the media diplomatic flaps with the U.S.

Spokesmen for the U.S. Embassy and the Jerusalem municipality had no comment.

Bibi didn't think the US wouldn't presume he is weak and press him to the wall?

Did he think they were going to stop at "settlements"? But Jerusalem has never been recognized, east or west.

When will he call in the US Ambassador?

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, I think this cannot be subject of negotiation.

West Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. East Jerusalem is territory captured through force which is occupied per the Geneva Conventions, much like the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights. Israel needs to get with the program and realize that the provision prohibiting the transfer of one's own citizens to an occupied territory exists for a reason - to stop nations like Israel and China from suppressing those pesky indigenous cultures and ethnic groups who reside in lands coveted by the ethnic majority and nation of those rogue states.

Before you say it - I'm not an anti-semite nor am I anti-Israel. If Israel wants to grow up and abide by international law and norms, I welcome them into the fold. As long as they continue to have one foot in Western Democracy and the other in Eastern nationalist military-oriented repressive authoritarianism, I can't sanction support for them. The rules need to be fair and they won't be until the same rules and punishments apply to Jew and Gentile alike, both in Israel and in the international community as well.

It´s not forbidden to build in the capital of your country.Jerusalem always was an unified city until the arabs attacked. By the way, the UN resolution talks about Israel leaving "territories" not "all territories", ths was made on purpose, check the facts. Apart from that, this was all linked to the END of terror...something that still didn´t happen.
Pete you talk about "repressive nationalism"? Israel is more democratic to its citiziens (all of them) than many western countries not to talk about the arab countries. If palestinians want a state they have to clean their homes first so their terrorist scum can´t be a menance to Israel.
