Another Olmert Omlette

Our new prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, said today in the Knesset plenum:-

"The continuation of the scattered settlements throughout the West Bank creates an inseparable mix of populations that will threaten the existence of the state of Israel as a Jewish state".

He went on and said:-

"The achievements of the settlement movement in main concentrations will forever be an integral part of the sovereign state of Israel, along with Jerusalem, our united capital".

"I, too, like many others, dreamed and wished that we could safeguard all of the territories of the Land of Israel for ourselves, and that the day would not come when we would need to give up parts of our land.

"Only those for whom the Land of Israel burns in their souls, know the pain of the concession, the farewell to the land of our forefathers," said Olmert, son of a founder of the right-wing Herut party, precursor to the Likud, Olmert's political home until late last year, when Ariel Sharon led a split from the party and formed Kadima.

"Even if the Jewish eye fills with tears, and the heart is torn, we must safeguard the principle - we must keep a solid and stable Jewish majority in our state."

Hmmm. Does this ("we must keep a solid and stable Jewish majority in our state") mean that we'll kick out Arabs from the, say, the Galilee? Or Jaffa? Just how important is a Jewish majority?

And if a lot, then why isn't real security (Kassams, Katyushas, Iranian missiles) a consideration for perhaps keeping the Jewish communities - besides the fact that by international law we belong where we are?

Of course you're right, but unfortunately, Olmert & his ilk have sold too much of the Israeli public on this bablat.

So, nu, how do we approach our Israeli public with hard, cogent, indisputable facts, figures and rational logic on issues like demography and security?
