Those "Territories"

I read that:-

Talks have begun for Pope Benedict XVI to make his first visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories next year, Vatican and Israeli officials said Thursday.

Those "territories"? Where are they? What are they?

In pre-1967 time, when the Palestine Liberation Organization was founded in 1964, "Palestine" was Israel.

Until September 1923, the League of Nations had decided that "Palestine" included what we know today as Israel, Judea, Samaria, Gaza and Jordan.

For Hamas, Israel is no where to be found as it cannot exist.

Even the "moderate" friend of Condi Rice, Mahmoud Abbas, has wiped Israel away as we can see on the map on the wall behind him.

So, where exactly is "Palestine"?

I remember, clearly, in 1982 (prior to the Peace for Galilee operation) when a Canadian professor of Middle East Politics visited Lebanon and was invited to Arafat's office in Beirut. He later showed me the photograph he took there... it was of a priest from Bethlehem sitting in the outer office, waiting to have an audience with Arafat.

The professor thought this photo of the priest in the PLO office was evidence that the PLO was NOT a terror organization bent on the destruction of Israel.

Immediately upon seeing the photograph, I said to him, "so do you see the map on the wall behind where the priest is sitting?" "What map?" he said. "The one that shows ALL of Israel with the word "Palestine" written across it," I said, pointing to it in the photo. "Oh," he said, "I didn't notice that..."

And here is the problem - it seems that the US State Department, UN and EU officials, most Western journalist, even professors of Middle East Politics don't SEE the map, which is very specific, first-person evidence of the intent of the PLO then and NOW!
