A Visitor from Australia

As my faithful readers know, between September 1966 and August 1967, I was on a year-long program sponsored by the Youth & Hechalutz Department of the Jewish Agency, called HaMachon L'Madrichei Chutz LaAretz, the Youth Leadership Program, or, for short, "The Machon". (Here's the Bogrim [Graduates] site). My Machzor was #39.

Well, someone I haven't seen in 41 years came to visit with Lucille and Annette (I'll just stick with first names), Gaby Krausz from Australia:

Just for fun, here's the Hebrew class, Vav, and Gaby is in the center, standing just behind our teacher, Yonah David:

Actually, the first thing I said to him was "where'd the mustache go?".

P.S. If you are searching for me, I'm in the back row, standing, third from left, in between Rivka and Debbie.

____________

Gaby died this past year of a heart attack.

Sure. How are you? Your career field seems to be, well, exciting if not down right adventurous. Machon can do things like that ;>)

Keep well and keep in touch.

Chevraia!
Looking at Kita Vav's picture just outside the Tzrif made me go back 42 years and remember each and everyone. That was undoubtly the BEST year in my life and the marks are present almost dayly. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Itzchak, Rivka, Pnina, Chana and Debbie, let me know. All the others I have met in recent years (besides Yossi Alaiv Hashalom). Be healthy, look after yourselves! Hi Annette and Mordechai
I just came across this blog.Hope you and your families are well.Gaby spoke so fondly of you both and also of the many happy memories from Machon. Debbie lives in Sydney--I think her surname is Deston and she is the head of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (Sydney). Our children, Adina and Ilana are still devastated with the loss of Gaby--we are all shocked and sad. It will take a long time to accept it. Please contact me Annette --it would be so wonderful to reconnect. When the Winter Olymics Vancouver were showing on tv I kept thinking so fondly of you and how proud you must feel for Canada. How are you all? Any grandkids? I don't know if Gaby mentioned that I remarried..my name is Pearl Rubinstein now. My husband Isi lives in Melbourne while I live in Sydney. Doesn't that sound like a Krausz kind of relationship?
Anyway Chag Sameach to you both and to your families.
