Hanan Ashrawi opines that "Israeli settlements [in the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria] are illegal under international law...a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention [and] under the Rome Statute, they are considered a war crime" ("Palestinians, America and the U.N.:, Jan. 20). However, they are not. In 1923, the League of Nations confirmed its decision the previous year that recognized the "historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine" as "grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country", this following the San Remo Conference decision to assign the country as a Mandate which was also discussed with the United States which agreed to the arrangement as per the 1924 Anglo-American Convention.
The United Nations later attempted to resolve the political situation that had developed as a result of three decades of Arab terror led by the Nazi collaborator, Haj Amin El-Husseini, by proferring partition. The Arab community rejected that and moreover, then engaged in an aggressive war to commit politicide. All during the following 19 years during which Judea and Samaria were under an Jordanian illegal occupation, that terror campaign contiuned against Israel within the Green Line ceasefire borders.
I reside in Shiloh, the former capital of the tribal federation of pre-monarchic Israel of over 3000 years ago. I am not an illegal but a revenant, one who has returned to ancestral heritage after a long absence. It is my historic, legal, cultural and religious right to live here.
At least you are reading my reply.
