Subject: Answer rec'd from T.A. police - justifying right to detain demonstrators
Spokesperson of Tel Aviv police department responded to query placed by our news agency, which inquired as to why it was that peaceful demonstrators carrying signs "Against Peace Now Incitement" were detained by police at Rabin rally last night.
Her answer:"Police have determined that carrying signs which say 'STOP PEACE NOW INCITEMENT' at a Rabin memorial rally would constitute a provocation and disturb the peace of the public at large"
It would seem appropriate to challenge that policy by contacting Israeli government officials and Knesset members, and by asking friends abroad to protest this policy to their local Israeli consulate and Israeli embassy abroad. Protesting Israeli government policy to local consulates and embassies abroad works very well.
