The IDF Won't Be Marching

The IDF won't be marching this 60th Independence Day but in Russia

Putin defends Russia's military parade

Russia's use of heavy weapons at this week's World War II commemoration parades is not intended as a threat to any nation, President Vladimir Putin said on Monday.
"For the first time in many years heavy military equipment will be used. This is not sabre-rattling. We are not threatening anyone and don't plan to," Putin said ahead of the traditional Victory Day parade on Friday.

"This is a demonstration of our growing defence capability.... We are capable of defending our people, citizens, our state, our wealth, which is not small," he said.

Israel is in a "post" age, I guess.

That’s quite somebody to look up to – Putin’s Russia! Really? Why not Iran, for example, they also have the insipid military parades with the infantile saber-rattling – nothing like such crap to lift spirits and instill phony patriotism in the masses! Come on…

And, besides, the IDF don’t know how to march well in any case, why shame ourselves? :)))))

Now seriously, I understand your frustration with the perceived lack of morale in the Israeli public in the year of 2008. If only we were like the halutzim of old, who were inspired and did not ask too many questions! Well, for one, it was always the true Jewish tradition to be skeptical about everything and sarcastically pessimistic about the world. But the real problem is not that. The real problem is that the same things that you think are the cure to our malady are actually the poison that made us sick in the first place. People do need things to be proud of and, believe it or not, blasting the sh*t out of 12-year olds with stones and firebombs doesn’t cut it. Having soldiers held by the enemy, though, and seeing how, because of false excuses, they will never come home– this hurts. Having just fought a futile war with the government and the media lying to you at every turn about the purpose of it – this hurts. Having to turn into cruel oppressors in order to rule over 3 million of destitute people that hate your guts – this hurts. This is of course only my take on the issue but I suspect most Israelis share it, even if only subconsciously.

"Blasting 12 year olds with stones.": And so it goes. Yet another person who has never seen a so called 12 year old throwing stones , save for a usually partisan media source. When they engage us with stines they usually use a slingshot. not a Stick in the shape of a "Y" but a David and Golaith type sling that catapualts the stone at speeds usually well over 120 kph.

If that were all they employed it would still be dangerous but of course an AK fires alot more than rocks, as do IEDs (though that Yanks only dealt with them?), Qassam and now Katyusha rockets. Ever see a 120 mm shell impact?

Instead of imagining what a nation of more than 6 million thinks subconsciously, you ought to be placing blame where it really belongs.

Blame does not belong with a People who have offered a substantial piece of their 4500 year old homeland for not one but two nations (Jordan of course being the first). What other nation on earth has even done half as much for an invasding People?

Arabs are native to one place on earth, al Hejaz and yet even without the PA there are 25 nations in the Arab League. We Jews with our ethics and compassion agreed in 1919 to let Arabs have the lions' share of our land. The result? A 16 year spate of terrorism that did not elicit one single organised Jewish response and has led to almost 100 years of conflict.Had Arabs agreed to peaceful coexistence in 1919 our children could go to university when they turn 18, not mouseholing through Gaza.

Furthermore, while Israel is like any other nation int hat we hold a myriad of political views, the majority do NOT think or feel like you (thank G-D) or we would see the results at the polls and in dropping military inductions.

Spend an hour watchinf al AKhsa TV and then talk about who is oppressing who.

So, Rachamin, you think one has to witness things to be able to draw any conclusions about them? Did you witness Mezada, World War Two, The War of Independence? I thought so, yet you are able to get some sort of idea about what happened. In fact without witnessing a lot of things you even seem to believe some more outlandish things, such as the fact that your allegeable ancestors lived in the Holy Land 2000 years ago gives you somehow more right to this land than people who lived here in the recent centuries, to the point that you, from your generous soul, are even ready to present them with the smaller part of their own land. All of this is a lot of rubbish, of course, but a topic for another discussion.
So, describe to me what is exactly the big difference between the Israeli soldier shooting at a 12 year old with that formidable slingshot of yours and a German soldier shooting at a Jewish boy in Warsaw ghetto? Beats me.
Could have left it at that, but you in your self-righteous drivel are not even a careful reader. If you were, you'd notice that I use "we" and "our" in my comment a lot, from which you could have suspected that I am not a complete stranger to the
Israeli landscape. True, I never saw a 12-year old Palestinian with a slingshot. That's because my short service in the territories coincided with the peace process and Rabin's assassination and then I moved to where there was much more action at the time, namely South Lebanon, where I served for more than 2 years and had a lot of chances to seat in "konenut sfiga" listening to the 120mm making holes outside or pray that my "shayara" won't hit one of those IEDs. My most beligirent encounter with the Pals was in Ramallah when Bibi decided to open the Hashmonean tunnel and we were shot at with not slingshots but with real bullets and my battalion had to extract a killed company commander from under fire. That stupid decision caused lives of 18 IDF soldiers (some of whom I personally knew) and countless Pals, but it sure made us feel goooood.
Cool off, dude, and learn some true history, read some true accounts how Yishuv and later Israel leadership never missed an opportunity to expel and kill and start an unnecessary war. Just don't go to the usual sources.
