One settler leader suggested that British consumers would be “missing out” on Israeli-made wines, but said the ban would not have a significant effect on his income and instead only have a negative effect on the UK.
“I hope [Ed] Miliband will compensate Arabs who will lose income or even employment as a result of his ban. As for Brits who will lose the benefits of our products, especially wine, maybe another minister will deal with that,” said Yisrael Medad, the Israeli spokesman for the West Bank settlement of Shilo, which produces wines and is known for its ancient sites.
While UK law already dictates that products made in settlements are labelled as such, it can be difficult to distinguish which goods are made beyond the Green Line, the boundary that separated Israel from the West Bank and Gaza after 1948.
