Terrorists Fire Qassams That Strike...Jordan!

This is getting complicated:-

Two Katyusha rockets were fired early Thursday morning from Egypt's Sinai Penninsula toward the southern Israeli city of Eilat. This was the first time a rocket has been fired at the resort town in almost five years.

The two rockets - each measuring 107 millimeters in diameter - struck a cooling storage house in Jordan's Red Sea port of Aqaba, said Jordanian officials. There were no casualties.

Israeli warplanes struck at least four times across Gaza on Friday, causing no injuries but damaging a number of structures that the Israeli military said were sites for weapons manufacturing or storage.

A military spokesman said the strikes were in response to a Qassam rocket fired from Gaza...more than 40 since the beginning of the year.

Palestinian witnesses said that in addition to the four strikes on Friday, there had been several others that hit areas used by militants for training, as well as, according to one report, a cheese factory in Gaza City.

Now, what type of cheese was that?

You Don't Even Have To Read Between the Lines

The New York Times brings you the truth. Just read carefully:

The decision to suspend the use of the short-range Qassam rockets that for years have flown into Israel, often dozens a day, has been partly the result of popular pressure. Increasingly, people here are questioning the value of the rockets, not because they hit civilians but because they are seen as relatively ineffective.

“What did the rockets do for us? Nothing,” Mona Abdelaziz, a 36-year-old lawyer, said in a typical street interview here.

How long Hamas will hold its fire and whether it will obtain longer-range missiles — which it says it is seeking — remain unclear...

...A senior Hamas police commander who spoke on condition of anonymity said the focus on culture and away from rockets was appropriate for now. He said Hamas was working on increasing the range of its rockets. But he said: “We have made a decision not to fire. As long as Israel is committed to an unofficial truce, so are we.”...

So, it is populism to kill Jews better. And, they are still preparing their terror capability.

I'm Mixed Up Or, A Matter of Arab Logic

With a "Kippah tip" (that's the kosher lingo for Hat-tip) to Charles of LGF - here - I was directed to this statement, stemming from the trial of the Iraqi show thrower:

defense attorney Dhia al-Saadi moved that the charges be dismissed, saying al-Zeidi's act was "an expression of freedom" and not a crime.

"It was an act of throwing a shoe, not a rocket," he told
the court. "It was meant as an insult to the occupation."

Let me see, if I am inferring correctly, firing off a rocket is a crime and even if there is "occupation", it is preferable to throw shows, not fire off rockets, mortars and missiles.

So, why doesn't the Arab world, or at least Iraq, condemn the Hamas in Gaza?

Or do I not grasp Arab logic well?

SNAFU: Situation Normal All Fired Up

At 9:12 Friday morning:

The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service evacuated five people from Sderot to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon following a Kassam strike near the western Negev town on Friday morning. One person suffered light shrapnel wounds. The others were treated for shock.

At 9:27:

One of seven Kassam rockets launched by terrorists in the northern part of Hamas-controlled Gaza hit a power pole next to a house in the western Negev city of Sderot on Friday morning. The house was damaged and a high school student was treated for shock.

The attack brings to ten the number of Kassams launched at Israeli targets in Gaza area communities on Friday.

At 9:34:

A 70-year-old woman from Sderot who underwent a cardiac incident was one of those evacuated from Sderot following Friday morning's rocket attack. She was reported in light condition at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

The HNN website reports that a number of cars in Sderot were damaged. Additional property damage was reported in a nearby community.

And

An Israel Air Force aircraft fired a missile at gunmen in the Gaza Strip on Friday, wounding two of them, after a rocket and a mortar fired from the coastal territory explouded south of Ashkelon.

An IDF spokesman confirmed there had been an air strike after the firing from Gaza at Israel on Friday.

The Cabinet approved a plan to reinforce residential units, via the construction of 9 sq. meter protected spaces, in a range of up to 4.5 kilometers from the fence around the Gaza Strip. This range was set in light of the need to protect the forward line that is exposed to fire and given the planned capability of the Iron Dome system, which is due to be operational and in place during 2010.

The Cabinet approved a NIS 327 million budget for implementing the first stage of the plan in Sderot, Nir Am, Gabim, Erez, Ibim, Zikim, Netiv Ha'asara, Nahal Oz, Kerem Shalom, Kisufim, Mefalsim and Kramiya. The Construction and Housing Ministry will have overall responsibility for the plan, which is to be completed during the first quarter of 2009.

There are approximately 8,000 residential units within 4.5 kilometers of the fence around the Gaza Strip that currently lack protected spaces and which were built prior to 1992, when legislation requiring their construction in all new housing units came into effect.
