This woman:

A "highly intoxicated" woman who investigators say passed out at a North Naples amusement park while caring for four children was arrested Saturday.

Karin Rosemarie Reinhard, 41, of the 400 block of Tarpon Cove Drive, North Naples, faces a charge of child neglect after one of her children phoned an acquaintance to report her mother was "really drunk" and "hanging over some guy she didn't know," according to an arrest report.

When deputies arrived, they attempted to wake Reinhard up several times. When asked about her two children and two belonging to a friend, all between 8-12 years old, Reinhard said they were at home and didn't realize they were still at the amusement park, which is along Airport-Pulling Road. She then called the arresting deputies "Nazis" and "Hitler" and was belligerent in front of families with children at the park, the report noted.

Background:

The protests and violence are part of what has been essentially a long-running dispute over a prime parcel of Mea She'arim real estate, called Batei Varshaw (“Warsaw Houses”), originally meant for use by poor hareidi immigrant families from Poland, but now at the center of a struggle over affordable housing and real estate development involving longtime residents (who claim they are being forced out), Gerrer Hasidim (who claim the Sikrikim group is trying to drive out Gerrer residents of the area), and the Sikrikim (who claim the Gerrer Hasidim are seeking to take over and use the area for a mass real estate project).

Batei Varshaw, with 150 apartments, is located right off Shabbat Square at the center of Mea She'arim -- and almost everyone agrees that the 130-year-old neighborhood is badly in need of an upgrade due to its dilapidated state.

The dispute has engendered angry words and worse between the groups; several weeks ago, a resident of Mea She'arim, Avraham Hirschman, was beaten badly by a group of people he says were Gerrer Hasidim, who claim that he was a member of the Sikrikim and had vandalized the home of the Gerrer Rebbe. Hirschman, who was treated for multiple wounds in Hadassah Ein-Kerem Hospital, denies being a member of the group, and says he knows nothing about the vandalism.

The dispute has been responsible for tensions in hareidi-religious communities in other towns and cities in Israel, such as Beit Shemesh. Several weeks ago, the supervisory council Eida HaChareidit, considered the supreme authority for hareidi Jews in Mea She'arim, issued a demand that the violence stop immediately.

Two New Hareidi Posters Are Up

Two new posters (pashkavillim) have gone up, both dealing with feminist issues from the hareidi viewpoint.

and it gravely warns that all females wearing short or tight skirts will lose the right to live in the Messianic Age to come.  Those who violate modesty norms see Isaiah 3:

is shocked and excoriates the Moreshet Yerushalyaim girls school in Betar Illit for including the instruction of...English in its curriculum.  This despite 150 years of a Rabbinic ban by the Rabbis of Jerusalem to prohibit the study of foreign, i.e., non-Yiddish languages (Hebrew is the 'sacred tongue' to be used solely for religious studeis and prayer).

First, the Jerusalem gender-segregated buses were judged innappropriate and therefore, illegal. Naomi Ragen led the charge.

NY may close bus service that makes women sit in back

New York City authorities said they will shut down a city bus service run by Orthodox Jews if the group doesn't stop making women sit at the back of the bus.

The Private Transportation Corp, which operates the city's public B110 bus under a franchise arrangement, has come under criticism following publicity about its practice of making women give up their seats in the front to promote Hasidic customs of gender separation.

New York City's Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Gastel said the agency's executive director Anne Koenig has asked the company to respond to the allegations and was waiting to hear back.

"Please be advised that a practice of requiring women to ride in the back ... would constitute a direct violation of your franchise agreement and may lead to termination of that agreement," Koenig wrote.

If such a violation is found, the franchise could be revoked, the DOT said in a statement.

...The B110 bus runs through the sections of the borough of Brooklyn that are heavily populated by Orthodox Jews...

I recall the buses from the Diamond Center, with a mechitza down the middle. This must be a newer seating arrangement.

A "Thank You' Wall Poster

Remember that poster, in Hebrew and English, asking those going to the Western Wall for dawn prayers on Shavuot holiday to use the Damascus Gate for men while the women were requested to pass through Jaffa Gate? (No? Well it's the fourth poster here)

Well, they were so pleased that they put up a thank you poster:

All the worthy and righteous women who went through Jaffa Gate, and especially those who did so later on during the day, are to be blessed and congratulated.  Through their actions, Israel is redeemed.

Now, This Is Segregation

RA sent me these photos.

They concern the new innovation of the hareidi sector - "segregated" sidewalks.

So now, due to too many females on the sidewalks, especially on Friday night, the "saintly women" are asked to walk only on the permitted marked section of Amos-Tzfania-Malchei Yisrael-Eli HaCohen streets, the right side.

Israel's ultra-Orthodox drive a thriving kosher economy

A community of at least 800,000 people - out of 5.4 million Jews living in Israel, a country of 7.1 million - the ultra-Orthodox, though comparatively poor, form a distinct, growing and important market, and Israeli companies are paying attention. While there are rabbinical strictures against watching television, using computers for leisure, immodest attire and unsupervised mixing of men and women, the Israeli market economy has adjusted in creative and surprising ways.

Some 60 percent of ultra-Orthodox men do not work regular jobs, preferring religious study. More than 50 percent live below the poverty line and get state allowances, compared with 15 percent of the rest of the population, and most families have six to seven children, said Momi Dahan, an economist at the School of Public Policy at Hebrew University.

Solution to Hareidi Antipathy to Mixed Public Transportation

I have been following the incidents of violence emanating from Hareidi quarters in Jerusalem and Bet Shemesh coming from men who can't tolerated mixed-seating or even women sitting in the front of the bus. My wife has blogged about it, too.

Anway, here's one possible solution:

Seoul subway to reintroduce women-only cars

SEOUL (AFP) — Women-only subway carriages will be reintroduced in South Korea's capital to try to curb sexual harassment of female passengers, officials said Wednesday.

Operators of Seoul's eight subway lines introduced women-only carriages in 1992, but the system was suspended just months later due to "structural problems in operations," a Seoul Metro spokesman told AFP.

"Previously, it had been impossible to stop male passengers from using women-only carriages during the rush hour," he said.

Subway authorities plan next year to designate two carriages of each train exclusively for women, he said.

As I have friends in Seoul (a Jewish chaplain and his wife), maybe I can get an on-the-scene report.

Okay, tell me where this is taking place:-

So, the Xxxxxxxx have enacted an interesting solution to this problem. They have created a beach strictly for women. No men, children or loud disco music are allowed.

"It's a simple idea," said beach owner XXXXX XXXXXX. "We have given the women their own world.''

Known as "XXXXX Beach," the area opened a week ago and is complete with exercise classes, water aerobics and makeup and manicure tips. It greets men with a pink sign that reads: "No Men."

The 50-mile stretch of coastline linking XXXXXX to XXXXXX also restricts traditional beach food....

Women can enjoy the sun, sea and sand without the lustful leers of men.

Beach-goer XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX said she hit the testosterone-free sands to meet new friends and talk about "women stuff."
