New Yorker Publishes Gail Hareven

And neither Hillel Halkin nor Haim Watzman or Nicholas DeLange are the translators.

Gail is the daughter of Shulamit Hareven and wife of Amnon Lord, editor of Makor Rishon.

Amnon is right, her mother was left and she's left-of-center.

The translator, Jeff Green (a fellow member of Kehilat Yedidya), has a much longer and more distinguished resume in the field of fiction translation than I do!

It is a creepy story that you should read carefully: the dehumanization of the Slows in the eyes of the new humans is an excellent metaphor for dehumanization of the Palestinians in the eyes of Jewish Israelis.
