Aramaic

You have a story (here) on Christians, Maronites, in Northern Israel and the big thing is keeping Aramaic alive, the language thought to be what Jesus spoke, although if he was a learned man, Hebrew would have been a natch.

Why go so far?

Anyone who learns the Biblical weekly portions is aware of the Aramaic commentary of Unkelos (and you can see it here around page 4-5) and anyone who has been to Yeshiva learns the Talmud, most of which is in Aramaic, as is most of Rabbinic commentary.

Or was the very anti-Israel slant the real reason for publication?
