The United Nations has reversed its stance on one of the most contentious and bloody incidents of the recent Israel Defense Forces operation in Gaza, saying that an IDF mortar strike that killed 43 people on January 6 did not hit one of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency schools after all.
It seems that the UN has been under pressure to put the record straight after doubts arose that the school had actually been targeted. Maxwell Gaylord, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Jerusalem, said Monday that the IDF mortar shells fell in the street near the compound, and not on the compound itself.
Gaylord said that the UN "would like to clarify that the shelling and all of the fatalities took place outside and not inside the school."
UNRWA, an agency whose sole purpose is to work with Palestinian refugees, said in response Tuesday that it had maintained from the day of attack that the wounded were outside of the school compound. UNRWA said that the source of the mistake in recent weeks had originated with a separate branch of the United Nations.
Senior IDF officials had previously expressed skepticism that the school had been struck, saying that two mortar shells could not kill 43 people and wound dozens more.
And as for humanitarian aid - here.

Oh, the children were killed outside the school instead of inside, glad we have this sorted out. As long as they're killed outside the school, there's no problem. Right?
Actually, you're right. You see, Israel's does not intentionally kill children, women an dunarmed combatants. Arabs engaged in their phony "resistance' however, purposefully kill little Jewish children in schools, restaurants, buses, discos, etc., and old Jewish kids, and old Jewish men and women.
And anybody who blindly justifies this policy, including the suicide bombers, are evil thinking persons who lack fundamental morality.
Israel is trying sooo hard to justify its actions and killing of innocent civilians that it makes the case against it more stronger.
Inside outside, how does it matter? 43 people lost their life, how many family lost their children, wifes, husbands and brothers. It's loss and it must be seen as such on both sides, because it's a loss for Israel as much as it's a loss for Palestine. No justifications are acceptable!
If IDF couldn't prevent for civilians being killed in such large numbers, they shouldn't have started the attack. If they had at least a thought that there might be civilians around the compound, they must have put the life of these civilians as their priority and not killing Hamas.
In the meantime, Yisrael, the world is tired of excuses for violence and they are too incredible to believe in. So don't waste your time. And no excuse would have worked with God who commands not to kill, intentionally unintentionally, no difference.

children is already a plural noun, no need for the "s"
Martijn Lauwens,
Since when is it "legitimate resistance" to indiscriminately fire rockets at civilian towns, or to bomb children in pizza parlors, teenagers in discotheques, and the elderly at Passover Seders?
Galia,
If you're going to quote God, at least get it right. Nowhere are we commanded not to kill; we are commanded not to MURDER. In fact, we are commanded to go to war in self-defense, and to fight until the enemy's total capitulation. (And that's if you don't believe they are descended from the Caananites as they like to claim. If they are, we have to completely wipe them out, women and children too.) IF we are disobeying God in this case, it's only by not going far enough.
You should stick to what you know, and leave God out of it.
To the person who wishes to stay anonymous: i stated literally that 'I agree, anyone blindly justifying a policy of porposefully killing little children or innocent civilians lacks fundamental morality.'
By legitimate resistance i mean the universal (and internationally recognised) right of any people to resist against any alien occupier or oppressor. The Palestinian people have the absolute right to stand up for their right to a sovereign state and for their freedom, as individuals and as a people.
Martijn, you must, of course, take into consideration the point of view that the Land of Israel was under Arab occupation and achieving a state in 1948 was just. And that the Arab attempts to eradicate it ("into the sea", remember?) all through 1948-1967 - not to mention the refusal in 1947 to accept the state offered as a partition - further disqualified the PLO. And the state of Israel, at least as equally as the Arabs, according to you, have the right to resist, has the right to defend itself, especially when the Arab "resistance" is 90% directed exclusively at civilians.
Anonymous,
if you want to pick on words, fine. In my view, to murder is not any better than to kill and my Bible say ""Thou shalt not kill", but go ahead, excuse the Gaza massacre with that "improper translation"
