Shiloh man, 28, arrested on an indictment for store robbery

GREENWICH -- A 28-year-old Shiloh man was arrested this week on an indictment for the robbery of a gas station in Greenwich, according to the Huron County Sheriff's Office. James Porter, Mechanic Street, was indicted in June for aggravated robbery, robbery and theft, according to Huron County Common Pleas Court records.

Authorities believe Porter rode a bicycle to the Greenwich BP about 1 p.m. May 13, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The female clerk opened the cash drawer and the man took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on his bicycle, according to the Huron County Sheriff's office. Porter was released by the Richland County Sheriff's Office, turned over to Huron County, and taken to the jail Wednesday afternoon, according to a sheriff's report.

Porter pleaded innocent to the indictment at his arraignment yesterday, Prosecutor Russ Leffler said. The court set a $40,000 bond in the case and scheduled a pretrial for September and a trial for October, Leffler said.
