The Qatari Solution to the Gaza Problem

Qatar keeps dumping money on Gaza. Some $30 million today and $1 billion over the past few years.

I have an alternative suggestion.

Qatar is 11,581 square kilometers in area.

<sup>Gaza is 365 square kilometers in area.

Qatar's population is about 2,650,000.</sup>

Gaza's population is almost 2,000,000.

It's obvious.

Why send Qatar money to Gaza?

Send Gazans to Qatar.

More than enough room.

Okay, there may be citizenship problems but it's no big deal to be a citizen of Gaza either.

Who is a major funder of Hamas?

Qatar:

Hamas and its backers such as Qatar have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on tunnels and rockets with one goal in mind: killing Israelis.

and

In 2010, Qatar twice offered to restore trade relations with Israel and allow the reinstatement of the Israeli mission in Doha, on condition that Israel allow Qatar to send building materials and money to Gaza to help rehabilitate infrastructure, and that Israel make a public statement expressing appreciation for Qatar's role and acknowledging its standing in the Middle East. Israel refused, on the grounds that Qatari supplies could be used by Hamas to build bunkers and reinforced positions from which to fire rockets at Israeli cities and towns, 

So, what do we make of this

and even more interestingly:

Qatar currently funds several large economic projects in Gaza, such as the establishment of a large hospital. It also funds the building of new infrastructure and the renovation of existing decrepit infrastructure. This includes Gaza’s crumbling sewer system, which poses a health risk to Gazans (while threatening Israel’s groundwater resources). Qatar also invested tens of millions of dollars to pave Salah al-Din Road connecting the northern Gaza Strip with the south.

Furthermore, Qatari architects, engineers and other professionals, along with some foreign experts representing Qatar, enter Gaza through the Erez Crossing with permits issued by Israel in coordination with Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Economy Ministry.

Additionally, the Qataris have committed to procuring all required raw material from Israel, not only because they have no other choice, but intentionally, out of the belief that this would soften the Israeli position. The purchases are currently valued at tens of millions of dollars, and in the coming years the total investment could amount to hundreds of millions of dollars. In other words, Israeli corporations benefit from the existence of projects funded by the Qataris in the Gaza Strip.

Rawabi will overlook Israel's central section.  From there, the view --- and trajectory for rockets --- is excellent.

Think about that.

And think about this:

Israel has blocked Qatari funds, aimed at covering the cost of the salaries of former Hamas employees, from being transferred to the Palestinian Authority (PA)...Qatar pledged to pay $60 million within three months to pay the salaries of the former Hamas-run government in Gaza.

So, why can't it halt the funding of Rawabi which is just as much a threat?  And surely will be.

Mozah: Mosey Along?

That's Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, wife of Qatar's Amir Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani who funds a lot of mischief here in the Middle East.

Here:

Jonathan Schanzer, vice president of research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told JNS that Qatar is "believed to be the primary financier of Hamas." And the Islamist group, which is currently at war with Israel in Gaza, is reported to have estimated annual expenses of some $1 billion.

In 2012, then Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani became the first head of state to visit Gaza since Hamas seized power there in a bloody 2007 battle with Fatah. Al Thani, who was driven around Gaza by themn Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh, pledged some $400 million to the strip. His son, the British-educated Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, took over as emir following his father's abdication last year, and is known to look on Hamas just as favorably.

I think she should stay out of politics and enabling terror and stick with fashion:

Might even calm Gaza.

Infighting paralyses Palestinian House

Palestinians are crying out for order and progress towards statehood, yet their parliament has failed to pass a single law in over a year, paralysed by factional fighting and, some say, Israeli tactics.

In the 15 months since voters rallied behind the Hamas Islamist group, the 11-year-old Palestinian Legislative Council has rarely managed to gather the 67 members, a simple majority, to form a quorum for decisions. It has yet to pass a bill...Frustrated independent lawmakers have accused both blocs of deliberately sabotaging the parliament and members of both main movements accept things need to change.

“Both factions are afraid the other will present bills that are against the interests of the other,” said Hassan Khreisheh, the independent member who is deputy Speaker...When deputy Speaker Khreisheh announced a quorum at one recent session, there were sighs and applause from lawmakers in the chamber in Ramallah in the West Bank and those, mainly from Hamas, participating via video link from the Gaza Strip, a feature imposed on the assembly by Israeli travel restrictions.

“It’s like a miracle we reached a quorum,” Azzam al-Ahmad, head of Fatah’s parliamentary bloc, said. But the session found no breakthrough on legislation politicians say would benefit Palestinians suffering from violence and from the economic sanctions imposed by Israel and Western powers a year ago after Hamas’s election victory.

Even the formation of a Hamas-Fatah unity government has not perceptibly fostered cooperation, analysts say, though there have been occasional successful votes—on largely non-binding issues such as condemning Israeli detention policy or building work near holy sites.

Did you catch that? Building. Building?
