Sources: Spitzer Resignation Expected

Gov. Eliot Spitzer was not expected to continue as governor and may resign sometime Monday evening, sources told CBS 2 shortly after it was reported that he was linked to a prostitution ring...The news sets off one of the largest scandals in modern New York state political history.

During a news conference Monday afternoon, Spitzer, 48, apologized to his family and the public, but did not go as far as to explain why. "I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my sense of right and wrong," he said in a brief statement. "I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself.

"I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family," he said alongside his wife, Silda Wall Spitzer, who was visibly upset as he spoke.

The couple has three daughters together.

The announcement not only shook up New York's political infrastructure, but political pundits who took to heart Spitzer's promise that he'd keep corruption and scandal out of Albany were stunned to learn of the news...

"This is one of the most intelligent, brightest elected officials in the region. You don't change governors of New York lightly, and I think it would be a mistake to act precipitously," political consultant Joseph Mercurio told CBS 2.

"I think first things first, he has to resolve his relationship with his wife. He has to look to his rabbi and make personal decisions first," Mercurio said "It's really initially up to him before the rest of us react."

This lady is Skyler. Apparently, we'll "appreciate her energetic enthusiasm for life and passionate harmony," which means something. Did Eliot Spitzer enjoy Skyler's passionate harmony, or does he go for Jew broads exclusively?

Do we need that kind of vulgar anti-Semitic flourish to drive home the progressive point of view? One of the great things about this Wonkette post is how beautifully it demonstrates that Jew-hatred exists totally independent of fact. Rudy is not a Jew. The family that owns the New York Times converted to Episcopalianism some time ago--and the paper itself is at best center-disparaging when it comes to issues affecting Jews.
Yet it it seemed good--even witty--to the Wonkette poster (and, one assumes, Wonkette itself) to make these stupid, fact-free name changes.

I agree with the Dr. Dawg et al. I read about this posting on a loony right blog, American Thinker [www.americanthinker.com] and figured it was just another case of the manufactured scandal about The Daily Kos. Shocked and saddened to see that this time it's true. How the HELL did this posting get on Wonkette? I think the author owes the readers and explanation and/or an apology. And the posters should do a bit of introspection about why this stupid Jew-baiting didn't phase them.

Talk about "shock and awe"...I am shocked by and in awe of the Jew hatred displayed here, and I am continually amazed at my liberal Jewish friends who blithely countenance this kind of Nazi bullshit from their political fellow travelers. Truly, antisemiticism and Jewish self-loathing are alive and well. What a terrible shame.

(And I don't whip out the "anti-semitism" term at the drop of a canard.) I guess I'll have to revise my opinion...that bit about the "intelligently-written political blog" will have to go. Sad.

NYTimes Obliquely Mentions L'Affair Wonkette

And I left this comment there but don't know if it'll be approved.

Wonkette had this clip on their blog site and the next day, referred to it, but emphasized the "Jew-liani" bit and then, out of the blue, referred too to something called the Jew York Times. I thought this was sliding too close to Judeophobia and blogged on it. Ken Layne of Wonkette then threatened me with legal action byreferring to lawyers, I refused to kuckle under and then he withdrew.
