Ultra-traditionalist Roman Catholics have openly challenged Pope Francis by disrupting...an interfaith ceremony in the Metropolitan Cathedral meant to promote religious harmony on the anniversary of the beginning of the Holocaust.

The annual gathering of Catholics, Jews and Protestants marks Kristallnacht...A small group disrupted Tuesday night's ceremony by shouting the rosary and the "Our Father" prayer, and spreading pamphlets saying that "followers of false gods must be kept out of the sacred temple."

..."Dear Jewish brothers, please feel at home, because that's the way Christians want it, despite these signs of intolerance," [Buenos Aires Archbishop Mario] Poli said. "Your presence here doesn't desecrate a temple of God. We will continue in peace this encounter that Pope Francis always promoted, valued and appreciated so much."...

...a group of about 40 people began to recite from the Christian liturgy, the 'Our Father,' and began to hand out little pieces of paper saying that Jews were blaspheming the place," [Rabbi Abraham] Skorka said. Skorka said protesters made cutting comments like "the Jews killed Jesus." He said one Jew confronted them, saying, "My grandmother died in Auschwitz," to which an activist replied, "Do you belive that lie?"

The Rev. Christian Bouchacourt, the South America leader of the Society of Saint Pius X, said Wednesday that the protesters belong to his organization and that they have a right to feel outraged when rabbis preside over a ceremony in a cathedral.  "I recognize the authority of the pope, but he is not infallible and in this case does things we cannot accept," Bouchacourt said in an interview with Radio La Red.

"This wasn't a desire to make a rebellion, but to show our love to the Catholic Church, which was made for the Catholic faith," Bouchacourt said. "A Mass isn't celebrated in a synagogue, nor in a mosque. The Muslims don't accept it. In the same way, we who are Catholics cannot accept the presence of another faith in our church."

When Cardinals Walked the Temple Mount Grounds

Cardinal O'Connell, of Boston, arrived in Rome after a visit to the Holy Land. The Osservatore Romana, Vatican journal, commented upon the warm reception accorded to the Cardinal in Jerusalem. "This attests two things: First, the prestige which accompanies a Cardinal of the Roman Church wherever he goes, and second, the great value Palestine attaches to the interest America takes in her recent new destiny. With Cardinal O'Connell on his pilgrimage went the good wishes of millions of Americans." Said Cardinal O'Connell: "There is darkness in the Near East, where the peoples do not enjoy the blessings which Christianity has brought to the people of the West."

Presuming that the Cardinal was the same that married Rose and Joe Kennedy in Boston, then his name was William Cardinal O’Connell.  Or William Henry O'Connell (here) who signed a protest petition against the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Priest: 'Jewish press' pushes perv scandal

A Queens Catholic priest is under fire for claiming that the church pedophile scandal has been distorted by the media -- because it's controlled by Jews.

"The most insignificant facts are intensified, they make sensational headlines, and that helps sell newspapers," the Rev. Vytautas Volertas, told a Lithuanian-language newspaper on May 1. "To put it another way, who controls the press? The Jews. Have you ever seen an article in The New York Times about a criminal rabbi? No? And you won't see one."

In fact, the Times, like every other major New York newspaper, last year reported the arrests of five rabbis who were indicted in a money-laundering probe in New Jersey.

Volertas, assigned to the Church of the Transfiguration in Maspeth, apologized after being chastised by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of the Brooklyn Diocese...

I guess it's tough dealing with his problems?

Williamson Is Going To Read One Book

In an e-mail and fax exchange with SPIEGEL, the ultra-conservative Bishop Richard Williamson saןג that he is willing to "review the historical evidence."

SPIEGEL: The Vatican is demanding that you retract your denial of the Holocaust, and it is threatening to not allow you to resume your activities as a bishop. How will you react?

Williamson: Throughout my life, I have always sought the truth. That is why I converted to Catholicism and became a priest. And now I can only say something, the truth of which I am convinced. Because I realize that there are many honest and intelligent people who think differently, I must now [now? wow] review the historical evidence once again. I said the same thing in my interview with Swedish television: Historical evidence is at issue, not emotions. And if I find this evidence, I will correct myself. But that will take time.

SPIEGEL: How can an educated Catholic deny the Holocaust?

Williamson: I addressed the subject in the 1980s. I had read various writings at the time. I cited the Leuchter report (eds. note: a debunked theory produced in the 1980s claiming erroneously that the Nazi gas chambers were technically impractical) in the interview, and it seemed plausible to me. Now I am told that it has been scientifically refuted. I plan now to look into it.

SPIEGEL: You could travel to Auschwitz yourself.

Williamson: No, I will not travel to Auschwitz. [but there's a museum there, he doesn't have to go further than that] I've ordered the book by Jean-Claude Pressac. It's called "Auschwitz: Technique and Operation of the Gas Chambers." A printout is now being sent to me, and I will read it and study it. [I can suggest more books]

So, This Irish Catholicism?

Dr John Kelly is a former registrar of University College Dublin and is chairman of the Friends of Bethlehem University in Ireland and he had an op-ed in the Irish Times today opining that "Behind the cruel edifice of a wall around the birthplace of Jesus, an enclave of university students triumph in the face of adversity".

Well, that's okay but then I read this

..."the Wall", the 70km-long, eight-metre-high monstrosity that attempts to divide Palestine from Israel...and we were there to say the rosary walking up and down past the Israeli armed guards at the main checkpoint leading to Jerusalem.

There were about 10 of us, a few De La Salle Brothers from Bethlehem University, some nuns from the Caritas Baby Hospital and a couple of locals, one of whom was an elderly lady whose lovely olive and lemon back garden had been cut in half and destroyed by the construction of the wall a few years before.

As we walked up and down saying the rosary, in full view of the Israeli guards, Jack hacked a bit off the wall with his crucifix and gave it to me. I have it framed in my study. The wall almost completely circumscribes the small town of Bethlehem and it has a number of checkpoints, each with Israeli armed guards. It is impossible, for me at any rate, not to compare this situation with the Nazi's Warsaw Ghetto and second World War checkpoints.

As with the Jews in that terrible city of the early 1940s, the Palestinians are being treated like scum by the Israeli guards. Bethlehem resembles a ghetto...

He had a previous piece "Segregation wall strangles the life out of Bethlehem" in The Irish Times on 24 June 2006 and so you can't claim the man is unfamilair with the facts.

Kelly, the 'Nazis', in your terminology - and I do not refer to Arabs, Arab terrorists or whatnot as 'Nazis' - in this case are being kept out.

So, The Catholic Church Has a Nazi Past

A little historical clarification here:-

The Catholic Church has issued a list of 5,900 people who were forced by the Nazis to work as gardeners, grave-diggers and hospital orderlies at Catholic facilities in Germany during World War II...During the Nazi era, huge numbers of Eastern Europeans were forced to do factory or farm work at low pay,

...The church decided to expose its own guilt in greater detail, commissioning a 700-page historical study of the 4,829 laborers and 1,075 prisoners of war it had obtained from the Nazi labor office...Most laborers did not work in churches, but typically in Catholic hospitals and cemeteries, on farms run by monasteries or in domestic service. According to the study, most hailed from Poland, Ukraine and the Soviet Union.

In a radio interview, Hummel said the Church had failed by not speaking out clearly against the Nazi regime..."It's a burden of history that our church will keep facing up to in the future," he said.

The report commissioned in 2000 by the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference found that during the war church institutions employed 4,829 civilians and 1,075 prisoners of war as slave labourers.

The Archbishop of Mainz, Cardinal Karl Lehmann said the 700-page history entitled "Forced Labour in the Catholic Church 1939-1945" found that 776 church hospitals, homes, monasteries, farms and gardens were provided with slave labour imported from Russia, Poland and the Ukraine by the Nazi regime.

...Cardinal Lehmann said at a press conference broadcast on German television on April 8...There is no collective guilt, but as Christians and as a church we are aware of the responsibility that results from the burden of the past,” the former president of the German Catholic Bishops Conference said.

"We shouldn't hide the fact that the memory of the Catholic church was blind for too long to the fate and the suffering of the men, women, young people and children dragged to Germany from all over Europe to be put to forced labour," Cardinal Lehmann said.

...Harvard scholar Daniel Jonah Goldhagen in his 2003 book “A Moral Reckoning: The Role of the Church in the Holocaust and Its Unfulfilled Duty of Repair” denounced the Catholic Church’s collusion with the Nazi regime, placing some of the moral responsibility of the Holocaust upon its shoulders, while John Cornwell in “Hitler’s Pope” denounced Pope Pius XII’s silence.

Other scholars have rejected these claims, including Rabbi David Dalin whose book the “Myth of Hitler’s Pope” argues the Catholic Church did more than any other religious body to help Jews in the face of Nazi persecution. [there just had to be a Jew, and a Rabbi at that, to counter Goldhagen]

Ironic

Middletown police right now are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman inside a local church. They got a good look at him thanks to surveillance video that was rolling during the entire attack.

The attack happened just after midnight on Wednesday. The victim, a volunteer at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middletown, was volunteering during perpetual adoration when the church is kept open for paying respect over the Eucharist.
