What, There's Anti-Israel Media Bias in...Australia?

From this blog:-

Jewish Community Council of Victoria President John Searle and Zionist
Council of Victoria President Dr Danny Lamm have again strongly criticised
Melbourne broadsheet The Age for its ongoing anti-Israel bias over a number of
years.

...”Despite our best efforts to present Israel’s case, there have been too many instances of anti-Israel statements to count, ranging from the blatant such as Michael Backman’s ugly smear job in 2009 to the more subtle and insidious”, Searle continued. “An example of the latter includes a recent article reprinted from The UK’s The Daily Telegraph which stated “Netanyahu will come under fierce pressure from Obama to extend a 10-month freeze on Jewish settlements in the West Bank”. The Age’s version made the following insertions “illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank” (The Age, 070710). Such changes make a world of difference.”

Burns' Rush

Reported:-

Julia Gillard was elected [Australia's] prime minister last Thursday...

On Monday she was caught in her first political storm as prime minister following a letter written by Ross Burns, who served as Australia's ambassador to Israel between 2001 and 2003.

In a letter to the Sydney Morning Herald, Burns said Gillard has been ''remarkably taciturn on the excesses of Israeli actions in the past two years''.

The former diplomat hinted that Gillard's stand stemmed from her relations with Jewish Melbourne property developer Albert Dadon, who employs Gillard's partner Tim Mathieson and has been active in advancing Australia's ties with Israel...Burns was joined by another former Australian ambassador to Tel Aviv, Peter Rodgers, who said that under successive governments, Australia's approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict had become increasingly unbalanced

Despite the stink of antisemitism in bringing up Jewish money, could it be that she simply has heard the truth through good sources?

That she doesn't need to be 'even-handed' be faithful to the truth?

What type of ambassadors were these mates?

P.S. See MerylYourish.

Australian "Militants" Defended by Militant Lawyers

And they're Muslim as well.

I have blogged many posts documenting the perverse use of the media of "militants" to describe terrorists.

Melbourne jury convicts militants

Militants?

And what did they do, or try to do these militants?

A Muslim cleric and five of his followers have been convicted of belonging to a terrorist group which allegedly planned attacks in Australia...The group was accused of planning to stage "violent jihad", targeting the prime minister and major sports events...prosecutors had argued that the group planned to attack an Australian rules football final that attracts nearly 100,000 people every year in Melbourne.

The men were also accused of plotting to assassinate former Prime Minister John Howard, who had authorised the deployment of Australian troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.

No attacks took place...The cleric allegedly told his supporters that it was permissible to kill women, children and the elderly.

...the case against them relied heavily on telephone conversations that were intercepted by the authorities.

But thank God for defence lawyers for they said

it was the suspects' bravado that led them to discuss violent attacks in Melbourne but insisted they had no ability to carry them out.

One of the men's lawyers, Remy Ven de Wiel, told the court that Muslims in Australia had a sense of "powerlessness and political impotence" and resorted to empty talk. He reportedly said Benbrika "couldn't organise a booze-up in a brewery".

Maybe there are "militant" lawyers?

P.S. Actually, that lawyer is stupid. What would a Muslim prohibited from drinking alcohol be doing in a brewery?

Into the Waves

According to the NYTimes report, the two people below are Ms. Laalaa and Mr. Damouny, both 20. They are Muslims who are participating in a year-old outreach program called On the Same Wave.

On the Same Wave promotes mulit-cultural understanding. Chinese, Somalis, Sudanese are taught beach culture and safety. It also diversifies the stereotyped Aussie lifeguard: "a virtually sacred Australian icon, the Surf Life Saver, as someone who is always blond, blue-eyed and sun-bronzed. Under the program, 22 men and women, from 14 to 40 years old and including a woman with three small children, signed up to become Surf Life Savers. Most were ethnic Lebanese, but there was a Palestinian, a Syrian and a Libyan.

I'm all for it.

But something similar here in Israel among the Haredi populace, for example, just wouldn't go down. Mixed swimming and mixed beach ogling isn't accepted.

Funny, though, for in my experience all the male Pals. coming to Israel's beaches never dress up the way that fellow does.

And kudos to Ms. Laalaa who said one reason she had joined the lifesaving program was to educate Australians about Muslims.

“They don’t think Muslim women swim,” she said. “Or do anything,” she quickly added with an irrepressible laugh.
