In a book review article, Walter Laqueur wrote: "Jerusalem (or to be precise, one specific place in Jerusalem—the al-Aqsa mosque) appears only once in the Koran..." ("Exodus").
Actually, Jerusalem is not at all mentioned in the Koran. The Al-Aqsa Mosque could not have even existed then as Jerusalem was not yet conquered and occupied by Muslims. Al-Aqsa in Arabic means "the furthest" and many commentators locate the mosque in Arabia.
Tsk, tsk.
