“The newsroom’s credibility is the coin of the realm, and the paper shouldn’t do anything to erode its credibility or give the appearance that it has eroded its credibility,” Mr. Weinstein said.
He took fierce exception to a statement on Mr. Martinez’s blog that the newsroom was engaged in “navel-gazing.” Mr. Weinstein said, “Maintaining strict ethical standards is not navel-gazing.”
It was in a story about the resifnation of Andrés Martinez, the editorial page editor of The Los Angeles Times, who claimed he had been undermined by his publisher. Mr. Martinez had helped select Brian Grazer, a Hollywood producer, as guest editor of a special edition of this Sunday’s opinion section, called Current. The paper reported yesterday that Mr. Martinez is in a romantic relationship with Kelly Mullens, a senior executive at the public relations firm that represents Mr. Grazer’s production company.
Oh, navel-gazing?
Excessive introspection, self-absorption, or concentration on a single issue.
