He is unpopular.
Here's the Haaretz lead-in:-
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert delivered an emotional speech [the Hebrew version] Thursday night in which he acknowledged his increasing unpopularity, but urged the public to give him its backing.
The speech, delivered at a meeting of his Kadima Party's governing council, was an effort to counter growing calls for his resignation, even from within his own party.
15 times he mentioned the word "unpopular" but not once did he try to explain why he is so unpopular but rather tried to deflect criticism by pointing to supposed successes, on the one hand, and improper methods he could take to correct that impression - methods, the illusion was, that his rivals would do and have readily done.
Particularly invidious, though, was this reference to a pre-state event:-
"Even though some think this is hunting season, I am sorry to disappoint my detractors,...
He is referring here to the Saison.
Olmert's being plain nasty in this instance.
