We are now allowed to disclose the following:  Security Forces in joint operation with police arrested an illegal person in Israel who admitted in his interrogation that he planned to carry out a kidnapping terror attack in the community of Avtalin.

Morad Ali-Hasin, 25 in custody first in 9.08 active in the Jihad Islami Terror Organization confessed that during  April 2014 he carried out several attempted terror attacks in the Misgav Region including an attempt to kidnap an Israeli and hold him in order to release terrorists in jail.  19.4 he attempted to enter a home in Avtelin near Carmiel, in order to kidnap fortunately the owner of the home prevented the abduction.

He also admitted in his interrogation that he had thrown fire bombs at cars in various occasions.  Along with him several other illegals were arrested.

...The extent of Americans' rage with Ya'alon was also shown by unusual public statements made by two Jewish groups with close ties to the Obama administration who blasted the Israeli defense minister.  In the harsher of the two, Rabbi Jack Moline of The National Jewish Democratic Council, the main Jewish group affiliated with the Democratic Party, said that “Ya'alon has clearly crossed a line with these absurd and over-the-top attacks against Israel’s strongest ally. His remarks are simply inappropriate for someone of Ya'alon’s stature, and we condemn these counterproductive and damaging statements.”
The Israeli Policy Forum, a pro-peace group, said in a statement that it “condemns recent statements by Ya'alon that insulted the Obama administration and harshly criticized American foreign policy in the Middle East and around the world.”

Was The Pal. Terrorist American-Trained?

Who trained that Pal. sniper?  US? Canda? England?

I have written much about the "Dayton Force", the original US involvement effort in training the terrorists of the Palestinian Authority in military sciences.  As Elyakim HaEtzni wrote exactly six years ago in 2007 of Condoleeza Rice:

She sent General Dayton to train terrorists disguised as policemen, and forced us to permit their arming, even though many of those arms and APCs fell into the hands of the Hamas, snipers who were trained after Oslo sniped and killed Jews, and Palestinian bomb disposal experts, trained in the United States used their new skills to operate explosive charges, murdering hundreds.

What training?  This:

Substance of Training

New recruits and newly-formed battalions generally undergo basic training at PA facilities in or around Jericho, then travel to JIPTC for 19 weeks of U.S.-sponsored training...[The 19-week basic training course provides instruction in the following skill sets: supply and logistics management, tactical training (to include a range of subjects), rapid reaction, crowd control, civil disorder management, tactical police response in high risk environments, cordons, basic administrative and personnel management/reform, organizational operations and planning, agency command and management, first line supervision, unarmed defensive tactics, basic patrol operations, high risk arrest, human rights, communications, basic medical, standard operating procedures, ethics/human rights, command and control, discipline, law enforcement intelligence gathering, physical fitness, border security, and security at crossing points. U.S. Department of State Scope of Work document, op. cit.] An added benefit of training in Jordan is that trainees are permitted to use firearms (which are supplied by Jordan during the training, Specialized courses also are offered at JIPTC and in the West Bank, usually immediately before or after basic training. Some of these courses train entire platoons in a particular set of skills, while others are meant to diffuse specialized knowledge throughout the battalion.

This is a partial report of the on-going terror attacks against Israel. April 26-May 5 2013

·        The most horrible incident was the brutal murder of Eviatar Brovsky HY"D , father of 5 wo was murdered in a stabbing and shooting incident at the Tapuah Junction by a terrorist.

·        2 explosive devices against Border Police Force at Abu Dis

·        Shooting attack with no injuries at Ein Kelt

·        Shooting attack on Highway 55 near Nebe Alias with no injuries

·        2 illegal Arabs drove in a stolen vehicle in a dangerous and wild manner in Netanya and caused an accident.  2 policemen were injured lightly and moderately in the accident.

Hatzalah Security Headquarters reported this past week: at least 10 security personal and 3 civilians were wounded from rock attacks:

Details: Officer and soldier injured at Zurif. 3 officers and 4 soldiers at Bet Umar and El Arub, Border policeman at Kadum

During the week the attempted murder of Jews continued with the Molotov attacks in at least 30 incidents : 4 thrown at IDF post at El ARub, 1 at IDF force at Hirbat Alia near Efrat, 1 at IDF post at Bet Umar, 10 towards IDF force at Zurif, 9 at Border police at Abu Dis, 2 Abud bypass, 1 at IDF reserve soldier between Negohot and Shekef, 2 between the Postman Junctin and Zit Raanan

South: 1 rocket in kibbutz in Sdot Negev Regional Council, 3 rockets fell near kibbutzim in Eshkol Regional Council, 5 failed attacks which landed inside of the Gaza Strip, IAF attacked terror base and war material storage place in Southern Gaza Strip, Joint operation of IDF and Security Forces in Gaza to eliminate active terrorist in the International Jihad Terror Organization who was involved in the rocket attacks on Eilat

3 Jewish youth were attacked by Arabs in Hevron, and anarchists attacked soldiers

As usual Israeli buses and cars with passengers who include women and children were attacked in the usual places and by miracle no injuries were reported

Judean Region: Cross Judean Highway near Bet Kachil, in the Chursa triangle, and at El Fuar, near the Jewish Cemetery in Hevron, near Yattir, ambulance attacked nea Shani

Etzion Region: Hirbat Alia, IDF force attacked aat Sehaysha Refugee Camp, several attacks between El Hadar and northern entrance to Efrat, near Har Gilo, Tekoa-Har Homa Highway

Shomron Region: Pundak, Between Sh'are Tikva and Oranit, Hawara, Highway 5 near La-zaviay, Bet Foruk, Kadum

Security Fence attacked by rocks near Etz Ephraim

Benjamin Region; Between Na'aleh and Postman Junction, several attacks near Maccabim, Betilu Junction dozens of Arabs attacked causing damage to several vehicles, near Ma'ale Levona, Anata, north of Rimonim, Alon Road, Yabrud near Ophra, Nebe Elias, Bal'ayin, and Na'alin

Also during the past week the volunteer emergency medics of Hatzalah Yehudah Shomron and the Jordan Valley along with MDA and the IDF Medic Corps and with the Security Departments of Kirayt Arba, Southern Hevron Hills, Efrat, Etzion, Shomron and Benjamin took care of injured in both accidents and terror incidents involving both Jews and Arabs.

According to a report issued by the Israel Security Agency, during April 2013 126 attacks were carried out in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem (as opposed to 122 in March).[4] Most of the attacks (99) involved Molotov cocktails, 26 involved IEDs and there was one stabbing attack that also involved gunfire (Israel Security Agency website, May 6, 2013).

Acts of Violence in Judea and Samaria Continue

• This past week there again were violent confrontations between Palestinians and Israeli security forces at the traditional friction points. Following the stabbing at the Tapuah Junction there was an increase in friction between Israeli settlers and Palestinians.
• Two incidents were particularly glaring:

• On May 2 shots were fired at Israelis on a tour of the Ein Prat Nature Reserve near the Jericho lookout point. At approximately 20:00 hours a group of Israelis saw someone suspicious approaching. They hurried back to their vehicle and as they drove away shots were fired at them. The police arrived on the scene and searched the area (Ynet, May 2, 2013).
• On May 4 a riot broke out between Israeli settlers and Palestinians near the Doar Junction, south of Talmon (northwest of Ramallah) when the Israeli settlers arrived to hold a protest against the stones thrown at Israeli vehicles. Palestinians came from the neighboring villages, threw stones at the Israelis and attacked them with clubs. Israeli security forces arrived at the site and separated the rioters. A dozen people were wounded. One, an Israeli, was seriously injured (Ynet, May 5, 2013).

The week of February 8, 2013 this is a report of the situation on the ground during that week.

Shomron Region:  As a result of Arabs attacking with rocks 3 Israeli civilians were injured.  1 near Yitzhar, 1 Israeli woman injured from glass shrapnel near Ma'aleh Shomron, 1 pregnant woman injured near Azun.

6 IDF soldiers injured:

1 Border policeman injured from rocks near Bourin was evacuated with possible broken thigh, 1 IDF soldier injured also in the same incident and was given medical attention on the location.

1 IDF soldier injured in his leg from rock attacks near El Arub on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Highway.

1 IDF soldier injured from rocks at Bourdus north-east of Ramallah.

2 IDF  soldiers injured from rocks at Harmelah and 1 IDF female soldier injured from rocks thrown by "Israeli Arabs" on a bus near Kfar Chabad.

VERY SERIOUS INCIDENT: Near Ma'aleh Shomron Arabs robbed a vehicle of a 5 month pregnant woman.  This incident could have resulted in an abduction of the woman in order to release terrorists from Israeli prisons.

Jerusalem:  Stabbing incident; Arab from Hevron stabbed young Israeli who was holding a prayer book next to his body, by miracle the book was stabbed and not the young Jew.  The terrorist was arrested and the weapon was found on him.

Hevron:  Female Arab terrorist with knives on her person was arrested near the Cave of the Patriarchs on her way to perpetrate a terror incident against Israelis.

Near the village of Bet Fa'jar shots were heard.  Recently there have been several incidents of shootings in the region and the Security Forces have made several arrests of a number of terrorists.

Bakaot checkpost: 3 explosive devices and 3 fake explosive devices were caught at the checkpost.

Near Kever Rachel a Pipe Bomb was detonated by the Bomb Squad.

Is The US Behind Israel?

There is Daniel Levy's opinion:

The standard, unwavering support for any and every Israeli action was on display. There were suggestions of even greater military assistance to Israel, and any notion that a ground invasion was somehow prevented by Washington’s intervention should be measured against the simple reality that Benjamin Netanyahu had very little interest in rolling that particular die during an election season.

And there is Peter Beinart's:-

Remember all the warnings from the Israeli and American Jewish right about how we’d see the “real” Obama after he was reelected. It was nonsense then, and it’s been proven to be nonsense now. Obama’s general orientation in this crisis--support Israel’s right to attack, protect it from United Nations reprimand and then negotiate a ceasefire—was essentially the same one Mitt Romney would have pursued. The difference is that Obama did it carefully and skillfully, with maximum effect and minimum bluster. Throughout the presidential campaign, Republicans discounted Obama’s material support for Israel—as embodied by the American funding for Iron Dome—and focused on what he supposedly didn’t feel in his kishkes.

And there are other opinions, like this one (which I've translated and edited) based on "leaks":-

The main reason for not completing the operation, and the entrance to Gaza, was because it was vetoed aggressively by the U.S. and Obama on the course it.

Clinton did not come to support efforts to promote a cease-fire but foremost to emphasize to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Barak that the U.S. has vetoed the continued operation quite emphatically and it is severely prohibited.

Clinton threatened the Prime Minister and told him that the U.S. itself will support international action, as well as threatening to support Abbas' UN bid for statehood in all the territories of Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. In fact, unilaterally adopt the positions of Abbas. And that Israel will lose.

Clinton, of course, threatened that Israel would not win military support, and financial funding of the war. Iron Dome aid will be halted.  Clinton warned Netanyahu that the U.S. president will remove completely from the table the steps to halt the Iranian nuclear program.

Clinton made it clear that, on the other hand, the U.S. will favorably consider the Israeli concessions and cease fighting in Gaza, and give Israel gifts.  First, the U.S. will force Egypt to force Hamas to observe the cease-fire...Israel will gain generous economic aid to cover the costs of the war, doubling the effort for more batteries of Iron Dome but behind this all is the threat was non-ambiguous - there would be penalties to punish Israel if Israel will continue the operation.

U.S. also promised Israel that after treatment of the Iranian issue and other issues related to the Arab Spring in the Middle East, Hamas's time will come...

...Bibi was surprised, so sure that the U.S. will stand by his side and he certainly did not expect these brutal threats...and so important to the U.S. was the cease-fire, that formal agreements and principles were waived...

That was not very encouraging.

In any case, I think Israel's leadership owes its citizens full information reporting on how the ceasefire is being observed.  Last night both Ehud Barak and Benny Begin television interviews seems very uncomfortable being pressed on this issue and how Israel will react, under what circumstances and what assurances are in place.

And now saw this:

... the Obama Administration intervened.

They were perfectly happy for Israel to go in to Gaza and take out Hamas, but insisted that they then turn Gaza over to the Palestinian Authority. This was supposed to strengthen PA President Mahmoud Abbas as 'Palestine's savior . As as a kicker, President Obama insisted that Israel immediately declare a Palestinian State in Gaza and most of Judea and Samaria, including areas currently under Israeli sovereignty from which the Jewish residents would then be removed. These were also to be turned over to Abbas.

If the Israelis were unwilling to have the IDF do Mahmoud Abbas' dirty work for him and then give up large areas populated by Jews, then the Obama Administration told the Israelis the U.S. would not back an IDF ground assault in Gaza.

Well, opinions are not facts (some people are questionaling the reliability of all of the above).

But I still wonder: did the US really suggest it might take an inordinate anount of time to refill our emergency supply dumpls and warehouses the US maintains?

No doubt Secretary Clinton is going to try to spin her trip to the Middle East as a victory for President Obama and for peace, but as American Jews sat down for their Thanksgiving there was a rapidly widening sense that the denouement of the Gaza crisis is a loss for Israel. The secretary managed to wrest from the situation a truce that makes a winner out of the president of Egypt and Hamas in Gaza and, for that matter, their backers in Iran. For Israel and those who are invested in the survival of the Jewish state, it is hard to see anything in the Obama administration’s intervention for which to be thankful...Eli Lake, who has an ear for the nuances of the story, reported that Prime Minister Netanyahu “gave private assurances” to President Obama that Israel “was not planning at that moment to launch a ground invasion of Gaza.” Why in the world would the American president be demanding assurances from Israel? The fact is that in the current war, the administration has seen its role not as standing behind Israel but between Israel and her enemies.

A senior diplomatic official: Netanyahu avoided a ground assault due to an Egyptian threat to cancel the peace treaty.

Israel's deputy prime minister, Dan Meridor, underscored Egypt's importance to Israel, suggesting they share security concerns, including making sure that "Gaza does not become a source of eruption endangering the stability of the region."

Romney's Analysis of Israel's Problems

From Mitt Romney's four-month old remarks:

I'm torn by two perspectives in this regard. One...is that the Palestinians have no interest whatsoever in establishing peace, and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish....Some might say, well, let's let the Palestinians have the West Bank, and have security, and set up a separate nation for the Palestinians. And then come a couple of thorny questions...—what the border would be? Maybe seven miles from Tel Aviv to what would be the West Bank…The other side of the West Bank, the other side of what would be this new Palestinian state would either be Syria at one point, or Jordan. And of course the Iranians would want to do through the West Bank exactly what they did through Lebanon, what they did near Gaza. Which is that the Iranians would want to bring missiles and armament into the West Bank and potentially threaten Israel...These are problems—these are very hard to solve, all right? And I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel, and these thorny issues, and I say, "There's just no way." And so what you do is you say, "You move things along the best way you can." You hope for some degree of stability, but you recognize that this is going to remain an unsolved problem....On the other hand, I got a call from a former secretary of state. I won't mention which one it was, but this individual said to me, you know, I think there's a prospect for a settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis after the Palestinian elections. I said, "Really?" And, you know, his answer was, "Yes, I think there's some prospect." And I didn't delve into it.

How Not To Deal With Iran

Fanaticism, like the terrorism which it generates, needs to be interpreted in a long-term perspective. Short-term analysis of fanaticism commonly arrives at one of two misinterpretations. The fanatic is a rational actor. His (rarely her) aims are rational even if we do not always recognise their underlying logic. The fanatic is a madman. The British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, calls bin Laden 'obviously psychotic and paranoid as well'. Seen in long-term perspective, fanaticism looks rather different. The most dangerous fanatics have always had, and will doubtless continue to have, two distinguishing characteristics. First, all fanatics are necessarily conspiracy theorists. Their extreme hatred of the enemies they have sought to destroy over the last millennium (among them heretics, witches, Jews, Trotskyists and the United States) can only be justified by substituting demonic, conspiratorial myth-images for reality. As Voltaire warned us two and a half centuries ago, 'Those who believe absurdities will commit atrocities'. Conspiracy theory is the only ideology which-as in the case of earlier fanatics--all the, otherwise disparate, most dangerous terrorists of the last decade (the first World Trade Center bombers, Aum Shinrikyo, Timothy McVeigh and Al-Qaeda) have in common. Second, however, at an operational level, the most dangerous fanatics, despite their conspiracy theories, are calculating and often dangerously effective-as on 11 September 2001.

The fanaticism which is at the heart of today's transnational terrorism can only be understood if both of these points are taken into account. The historical record shows, however, that analysts have found it very difficult to grasp that those who threaten us have been both at the same time. That has been true of our response to Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and-at least initially-Usama bin Laden.

Because Hitler could, when he chose, play the role of a skilful international statesman, pre-Second World War Western assessments of his intentions simply could not credit the fanaticism with which he pursued his ultimate aims of a huge slave empire in Eastern Europe and the 'final solution' of the Jewish question. Though Hitler was obsessed by the preposterous conspiracy theory of a Jewish plot for world mastery, he was none the less shrewd and calculating enough to out-negotiate Western statesmen before WW2 and to drive his generals to achieve during the first two years of the war the most spectacular sequence of rapid military victories since Alexander the Great.

While British intelligence knew an unprecedented amount about Hitler's military operations, caught every one of his spies in Britain and used them as the basis of the stunningly successful Double Cross deception, the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) understood very little indeed about how his mind worked-so little that it recruited two astrologers and a water-diviner. As Paul Winter has shown, until 1942 the JIC paid more attention to the astrologers than to the conspiracy theories of Mein Kampf.

On Whom Do We Depend?

We can divide Israelis into several broad-based groups: the religious-oriented, the traditonal, the secular nationalist and the secular humanist.

On what would each group depend for Israel's - and their - security, existence and well-being?

On God? On sanctions? On diplomacy? On goodwill gestures?

On an American President?

America failed the Jews in the mid-to-late-1930s when they were refugees.

America failed the Jews during World War II in not bombing Auschwizt nor letting Jews into the United States.

America failed Israel in March 1948 by seeking to push the trusteeship idea instead of statehood.

America threatened Israel in 1956, forcing Ben-Gurion to withdraw from Sinai.

America couldn't find the Tripartite Agreement which would guarabntee its shipping freedom after the Egyptians closed the the Straits of Tiran and the Suez Canal.

America delayed until the very last moment shipments of arms during the Yom Kipp 1973 war, in order that Israel 'bleed'.

Amerca berated Israel after Menachem Begin bombed the Iraqi reactor in 1981.

America castigated Israel's first Lebanon campaign in 1982.

I could go on but I think you get my point.

And now, consider Charles Krauthammer's point about

...Obama’s campaign-year posturing about Iran’s nukes. Speaking Sunday in front of AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee), he warned that “Iran’s leaders should have no doubt about the resolve of the United States.” This just two days after he’d said (to the Atlantic) of possible U.S. military action, “I don’t bluff.” Yet on Tuesday he returned to the very engagement policy that he admits had previously failed.

Who do we depnd on now?

Which of the above choices now sounds the more rational?

...Obama's pledges are not worth anything more than were John Foster Dulles' pledges made to get Israel to leave the Sinai after the 1956 war. Lyndon Johnson would not honor those pledges when Egypt -- in violation of the agreement with Israel 00 cut off the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping in 1967. If Egypt now abrogates the peace treaty Henry Kissinger brokered with Israel, America will not enforce the terms on Israel's behalf. George H. W. Bush did not enforce the cease fire of the 1990 Gulf War as it affected either the Kurds or the Shia of southern Iraq. The Vietnam Peace Treaty was worthless except to permit America to save face and withdraw its forces. America induced the Hungarians to revolt and sat by idly as the Russians slaughtered them.

Nations have interests, not commitments or friends. America under Obama and Israel do not have shared interests. Obama does not care about Israel's democracy any more than he cares about Turkey's growing tyranny or Saudi Arabia's monarchy.

The Privileges of An Arab Criminal

Two nights ago, there was a suspected infiltration of Shiloh but after less than an hour, the 'all clear' was given.

Last night, again there was an alert.  One of our security squad members observed an act of theft, began following and then another three Arabs exited their cover and all four ran towards our neighboring Arab village of Qaryut.

They were chased by additional members of the emergency intervention squad, backing up the first member, and the suspects entered Qaryut.  Still following them, our squad members discovered the Arabs had sought "sanctuary".  They holed up in the mosque and barred the door.

Calling up the Army, it was made clear to them that mosques are inviolable.

That may seem logical and rational to you.

However, consider this: synagogues do not serve as sanctuaries for Jews and they can even be destroyed (this one more than a dozen times).

I guess an Arab criminal has privileges.

J Street welcomes the inclusion of language providing for continued US assistance to the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the FY2012 appropriations package introduced yesterday in the House...said Dylan Williams, J Street’s Director of Government Affairs.

The appropriations bill allows aid benefitting the PA to continue so long as the Palestinians do not obtain full membership or the same standing as member states in additional United Nations entities...“It is gratifying to see a bipartisan consensus emerge in support of continuing US assistance to the PA at this critical moment, as well as increased recognition of its vital role in protecting Israel and the United States’ essential interests in a stable Palestinian government,” added Williams.

Numerous Israeli and American security experts have drawn a direct link between continued Palestinian security assistance and Israel’s own security...J Street supports funding such programs at the substantial levels of recent years.

Yes, this has been relatively a good year for non-terror and obviously, the better the cooperation, the better the results.

Of course, if the terrorists are coming out of the ranks of the PA security forces, if the PA continues to incite, if the PA does not encourage educational programs for peace and coexistence, is the training the US is providing - and for which the money goes - actually making a better terrorist in the future?

Does US tax dollars also go for sensitivity training? Or is it just "security" without peace?

I have been quite critical of the 'Dayton Force' at this blog and am not convinced that this "security" being developed will be in the long-term that beneficial without the attending factors I've mentioned.

And, of course, if the PA is a bad boy, is aid reduced, even in mid-budget?

Iran on Israel's Borders

It's official (via IMRA):

Senior Military Aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi warned Israel that should it attack Iran's nuclear sites, Tehran and its regional allies, including Hezbollah and Hamas, will crush its cities with rocket and missile attacks.


Safavi, who formerly led the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), told Iran's Arabic-language satellite channel Al-Alam "in case of an attack by Israel, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza will also join the fighting".

As he says,

"There will be no need for Iran to launch ballistic missiles at Israel, because all the Zionist cities are within the range of our ally Hezbollah's Katyusha (rockets)," he continued.

The Cost of Travel

Americans for Peace Now is concerned about the reductions in fares afforded passengers travelling to the various Jewish communities in regions of the Jewish national home not yet under full Israel sovereignty.
