What Is Meant by Zionists by the term 'Colonization'?

 Anti-Zionists and the pro-Palestine propagandist point to the use by Zionist leaders of the term "colonization" as an indication they were, well, colonizing.

Here's a Ze'ev Jabotinsky quotation:

That's from 1922, his first visit to America at the head of a delegation of the Keren HaYesod. As an extra "bonues", he compares what is to be done in the Mandate territory to what was done to America's native population.

As can be readily comprehended, by the use of the term, Jabotinsky is referring not to a process whereby a country that does not belong to you is taken over and subjugated - militarly, economically or otherwise and its popualtion is done away with, physically or socially - but simply the various forms of rebuilding a country through agriculture and industry. It is the mechanics of how it is done not an imperial design to transfer a population from another part of the world into a territory you have no connection with as England, Holland, Belgium, Germany yand other Europeans countries did. And Arabs were involved in sharing this economic resurgence of the country even within the Histadrut but eventaully, their political opposition overroad their good sense.

Haaretz Pundit An Ignorant Ass

As CAMERA points out, Haaretz pundit, Sefi Rechlevsky, is an ignorant ass

Ha'aretz's Sefi Rachlevsky is overly optimistic...Today he finds that only Israel is an occupier, and fails to notice that there are numerous occupied territories around the world. He writes:


Israel will soon celebrate 44 years of the occupation. For a lengthy portion of that time, we are talking about the last colonial occupation on earth.

This surely most come as news to the Tibetans occupied by China, the Chechnyians occupied by Russia, the North Cypriots occupied by Turkey, West Saharans occupied by Morocco, residents of the Falklands occupied by the United Kingdom, as well as those living in Georgian-occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Of course, however, Israel is not in any way a "colonial occupier".  Odd that even CAMERA didn't catch that out although its Hebrew site, Presspectiva got it right by pointing out the theme of disputed sovereignty in many areas which could parallel the case with the "disputed territories" of Judea and Samaria.  Althouigh, as my readers know full well, I consider those regions as part of the Land of Israel which were included in the original intent of the nations where the Jewish national home was to be reconstituted.

An Alt-Neu "Transferist"?

With all the controversy in Israel over the idea of 'transfer' (see here) over the years, this is all we need:

Abraham Lincoln's...remarks in 1862 to a White House audience of free blacks, urging them to leave the U.S. and settle in Central America.


"For the sake of your race, you should sacrifice something of your present comfort for the purpose of being as grand in that respect as the white people," Lincoln said, promoting his idea of colonization: resettling blacks in foreign countries on the belief that whites and blacks could not coexist in the same nation.

Lincoln went on to say that free blacks who envisioned a permanent life in the United States were being "selfish" and he promoted Central America as an ideal location "especially because of the similarity of climate with your native land — thus being suited to your physical condition."

...The book, "Colonization After Emancipation," is based in part on newly uncovered documents that authors Philip Magness and Sebastian Page found at the British National Archives outside London and in the U.S. National Archives...Lincoln even referred to colonization in the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, his September 1862 warning to the South that he would free all slaves in Southern territory if the rebellion continued. Unlike some others, Lincoln always promoted a voluntary colonization, rather than forcing blacks to leave.  But historians differ on whether Lincoln moved away from colonization after he issued the official Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, or whether he continued to support it.

Magness and Page's book offers evidence that Lincoln continued to support colonization, engaging in secret diplomacy with the British to establish a colony in British Honduras, now Belize.  Among the records found at the British archives is an 1863 order from Lincoln granting a British agent permission to recruit volunteers for a Belize colony...[but] presidential secretary John Hay wrote in July 1864 that Lincoln had "sloughed off" colonization.  "Most of the evidence points to the idea that Lincoln is looking at other ways" to resolve the transition from slavery besides colonization at the end of his presidency, Schwartz said...[however] "He never had a chance to complete his vision. Lincoln's racial views were evolving at the time of his death," Magness said.

What would we do if an American president ever actively promoted an extreme Israeli idea?

Birthrate Down; Not "Settlements" - "Colonies"

The birthrate in the Palestinian Authority (PA) declined from six percent in 1997 to 4.6 percent in 2009, according to figures released Thursday by the PA's Central Bureau of Statistics. According to the bureau, the population of the PA-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria is 2.4 million, while the Gaza population is 1.5 million.

No Chance of Colonies Deal with Israel, EU Official Says

TEL AVIV, July 9, 2009 (WAFA)- A senior European Union official rules out any compromise with Israel over the issue of colonies, unless reached in the framework of a final-status agreement with the Palestinians, Akiva Eldar wrote Thursday in the Israeli daily Haaretz.

Robert Rydberg, head of the Middle East desk in the Swedish Foreign Ministry, stressed on Monday it was inconceivable for the international community to legitimize natural growth of the colonizer population, since all colonies beyond the 1949 Line of Armistice were illegal.

Rydberg, whose country holds the EU presidency, said the only conceivable compromise would come with Israeli and Palestinian agreement on borders in an all-encompassing final-status agreement between the two parties.

Speaking at a conference in Munich, Rydberg slammed the colonies as creating a new reality on the ground in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and spawning obstacles, and he said that roadblocks were intended mainly to protect the colonies rather than Israel proper within the Line of Armistice.

Rydberg said Israel's colonization policy did not build credibility among the Palestinian leadership and that President Mahmoud Abbas wanted to reach an agreement with Israel. He said the ideology that guides most colonizers is based on utter denial of the rights of Palestinians in the OPT.

A Jerusalem Post Oopsie

An acquaintance wrote to someone at the JPost today:

The headline on the website today: ""Sarkozy urges Israel to halt West Bank 'colonization'" betrays ignorance of the French language, and misreads into Sarkozy's remarks that were unlikely to have been there.

French does not have two separate words for colonization and settlement, and uses "colonization" for both. This is harmful and misleading.

It's on the lines of Vilnai's unfortunate holocaust comment.
