Adah Girl

This woman

accepted an unheard-of offer from Tom Maguire's San Francisco Opera House: She would receive one-third of the gate. This made [her] the highest paid actress in the world [during the 1860s].

Mark Twain described her appeal:

"A magnificent spectacle dazzled my vision—the whole constellation of the Great Menken came flaming out of the heavens and shed a glory abroad as it fell! I have used the term 'Great Menken' because I regard it as a more modest expression than the 'Great Bare.'"

And she was Jewish.

Is Eating Cockroaches A Nice Thing For A Jewish Girl?

Stacey Solomon is off to the jungle. A participant in the "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!" program.

Stacey

is Jewish, a single mother. Her home is in Dagenham, where she lives with her divorced mother and her son, Zachary. Her parents’ marriage broke up when she was seven. She has an elder sister and a younger brother. At 17, while at college, Stacey unexpectedly became pregnant by her long-term boyfriend Dean Cox and gave birth.

Her family arrived in Britain from Eastern Europe almost a century ago. Her late grandmother Matilda Solomon was a widow who raised her children alone, as did her widowed mother before her.

She attended the King Solomon High School in Ilford, Essex, but left at the age of 16 in the summer of 2005.

And now, after making some £100,000 away since her participation on the The X Factor show, she may be eating cockroaches.

Is that a nice way for a Jewish to spend her time in the jungle?

Belle de Jour is Belle de Jew

It's out:

A highly successful, widely read and intellectual woman with several degrees, Dr Magnanti was born in Florida, the Jewish granddaughter of Italian immigrants (*). She attended Clearwater Central Catholic high school and went on to university in the U.S. She moved to Britain as a postgraduate student at Sheffield, where she embarked on a PhD in computer visualisation, annotation and databasing of human skeletal remains...

She admitted in yesterday's interview that she has 'a pathological aversion to being in debt' and had no moral objection to the concept of 'hookerdom'. Indeed, she reveals that she has a relative who used to be a streetwalker to support a drug habit.

(*) Her mother was Susan Levy.

What is this about, you ask?

Well,

For six years, her identity remained a closely guarded secret: a tantalising mystery for all those hooked on the stockings-and-stilettos tales of high-class call girl Belle de Jour. A male fantasy with her Chanel nail varnish, lacy knickers, sexual tricks and vast knowledge of French cinema, the anonymous author of the best-selling memoir The Intimate Adventures Of A London Call Girl prompted a frenzy of speculation.

As the Guardian wrote:

One of the best kept literary secrets of the decade was revealed last night when 34-year-old scientist Dr Brooke Magnanti announced she was the writer masquerading as call girl Belle de Jour.

...But now Magnanti, a respected specialist in developmental neurotoxicology and cancer epidemiology in a hospital research group in Bristol, has spoken of the time six years ago she worked as a £300 an hour prostitute working through a London escort agency. Magnanti turned to the agency in the final stages of her PhD thesis when she ran out of money.

I knew she was Jewish all along.

She mentioned planning for a family Rosh Hashana celebration once.

Here:

mercredi, septembre 15

Sundown is the start of Rosh Hashanah. I'm afraid, darlings, the time has come for me to go.

Mentioned here, too, I just found.

Oh, she used "oy vey", also; another giveaway:-

Located what sounded like an excellent, small, discreet agency (word of mouth, as they say). After email contact and sending my photos, I finally arranged to meet the manager at the dining room of a central London hotel. She sounded very young and had a very strong Eastern European accent. Polish, maybe? Should I ask? Oy vey.

A Second Nomination for the Free Trip to the Jewish Bloggers' Convention

I decided to make a second nomination (don't Jews do things by two - Moses to God: 'So, how much are those Tablets?' God - 'They're free' Moses - 'I'll take two then.')

Jewess aka Rebecca Honig Friedman.

Rebecca has broken new ground in asserting feminist Jewish issues - dealing with archival material, up-to-date cultural and religious issues, promoting the Lower East Side (a plus with me for sure), and moved up to TJC - The Jewish Channel, a new news medium of Jewish issues.

She has extended (I can't use broadened) the limits on serious Jewish communal and feminist discussions and would give a great angle to NBN reporting as well as attendance at the Conference.

Sarah Bernhardt - A Loose Jewess?

What next?

Sarah Bernhardt - the Divine Sarah herself! - had her outsize life reduced by the police to fiche No.158 in 1875.

The Bernhardt authority Robert Gottlieb takes offense at her being listed, especially in 1875 when she was at the height of her glory. Her finances, like her morals, were shaky, Gottlieb says, but she cannot be called an Insoumise. For one thing she had nothing against authority. "She didn't care about authority, as long as she got her way," he said.

Gottlieb suggests that the fact that Bernhardt was avaricious, sexual and, above all, Jewish - in other words, considered alien and disruptive - might explain her inclusion among the courtesans. Indeed, looking at the police fiches one suspects many private agendas and opportunities for blackmail.

Or sometimes it was just jealousy. Even the police note that Bernhardt was denounced by Henri Ducasse, a member of Parliament who had already supplied information on other women. In Bernhardt's case, his beef was that she kept him waiting while she received older men.

Walking on the Talmud?

A new book is coming out in October:-

That looks like the opening of Tractate Kiddushin:

האשה נקנית בשלש דרכים וקונה את עצמה בשתי דרכים נקנית בכסף בשטר ובביאה בכסף בית שמאי אומרים בדינר ובשוה דינר ובית הלל אומרים בפרוטה ובשוה פרוטה וכמה היא פרוטה אחד משמנה באיסר האיטלקי וקונה את עצמה בגט ובמיתת הבעל היבמה נקנית בביאה וקונה את עצמה בחליצה ובמיתת היבם

A woman is acquired in three ways and she acquires herself in two ways. She is acquired through money, documents, or sexual intercourse. With money: Beit Shamai says with a dinar, or the equivalent value of a dinar; Beit Hillel says with a pruta or the equivalent value of a pruta. How much is a pruta? It is one eighth of an Italian issar. She acquires herself with a get or the death of her husband. A levirate woman is acquired through sexual intercourse and acquires herself through halitza or the death of her levirate husband.

The teaser:-

Jews and Shoes takes a fresh look at the makings and meanings of shoes, cobblers, and barefootedness in Jewish experience. The book shows how shoes convey theological, social, and economic concepts, and as such are intriguing subjects for inquiry within a wide range of cultural, artistic, and historic contexts.

The book's multidisciplinary approach encompasses a wide range of contributions from disciplines as diverse as fashion, visual culture, history, anthropology, Bible and Talmud, and performance studies. Jews and Shoes will appeal to students, scholars and general readers alike who are interested to find out more about the practical and symbolic significance of shoes in Jewish culture since antiquity.

The author:

Edna Nahshon is Associate Professor of Hebrew at the Jewish Theological Seminary and Senior Associate, Center of Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Oxford University.

Hmmm.

These boots are made for learning?

P.S. Does she include this shoe element:-

Another ancient tradition that has been reevaluated in the light of recent archeological discoveries has to do with an obscure law in the Mishnah that forbids the wearing of “nailed sandals” on the Sabbath. [90:1 Once a number of Jews took refuge in a cave, and hearing some persons pass, whom they supposed to be enemies, they fell on each other with their hobnailed sandals, and beat each other to death.]

The Talmud traces the prohibition to a tragic occurrence that occurred “in the final days of the ‘persecution’ [sh'mad],” a standard rabbinic expression for the Bar Kokhba insurrection: A group of Jews who were hiding in a sealed off cave saw the tracks of a nailed sandal that inadvertently been worn backwards, and assumed that enemy soldiers had entered their cave. In the ensuing panic, which took place on a Saturday, “more people were killed than were killed by the enemy.” *

A variant of the story had it that it was the familiar scratching sound of the sandals’ nail-heads on the ground outside the cave that had provoked to the hysteria, with its deadly consequences.

Indeed, the dreaded nailed sandal was often equated in ancient sources with the might of the Roman legionary, and the word kalgas, from the Latin caliga, became a synonym for a fierce soldier.

Nevertheless, the Talmudic rationale for the prohibition of wearing nailed sandals on the Sabbath was dismissed by most respectable scholars as too farfetched for serious consideration.

Here again, archeology has altered our perspectives on the matter.

On a mountainous ridge overlooking Jericho, a cave was excavated in 1986, and it soon became clear that it was one of those caves that had served as a refuge for Jews during the Bar Kokhba uprising. The cave also contained the remains of a nailed sandal that had evidently belonged to a Jewish revolutionary. The owner of the sandals apparently perished in the cave, along with more than thirty men and women of diverse ages.

This tragic episode, or one very much like it, might lie at the root of the halakhic prohibition against wearing the lethal footwear.

And see: Hanan Eshel, “Nailed Sandals in Jewish Sources and in the Excavation of a Cave at Ketef Jericho,” Zion 53, no. 2 (1988): 191-8.

MISHNAH. A MAN MAY NOT GO OUT WITH A NAIL-STUDDED SANDAL, NOR WITH A SINGLE [SANDAL]. IF HE HAS NO WOUND ON HIS FOOT;15 NOR WITH TEFILLIN, NOR WITH AN AMULET, IF IT IS NOT FROM AN EXPERT, NOR WITH A COAT OF MAIL [SHIRYON], NOR WITH A CASQUE [KASDA], NOR WITH GREAVES [MEGAFAYYIM]. YET IF HE GOES OUT, HE DOES NOT INCUR A SIN-OFFERING.16

GEMARA. A NAIL-STUDDED SANDAL: What is the reason? — Said Samuel: It was at the end of the period of persecution.17 and they [some fugitives] were hiding in a cave. They proclaimed, 'He who would enter, let him enter,18 but he who would go out, let him not go out.'19 Now, the sandal of one of them became reversed, so that they thought that one of them had gone out and been seen by the enemies, who would now fall upon them. Thereupon they pressed against each other,20 and they killed of each other more than their enemies slew of them. R. Ila'i b. Eleazar said: They were stationed in a cave when they heard a sound [proceeding] from above the cave. Thinking that the enemy was coming upon them, they pressed against each other and slew amongst themselves more than the enemy had slain of them. Rami b. Ezekiel said: They were stationed in a Synagogue, when they heard a sound from behind the synagogue. Thinking that the enemy was coming upon them, they pressed against each other and slew amongst themselves more than the enemy had slain of them. In that hour it was enacted: A man must not go out with a nail-studded sandal.21

16 Because these are garments in war, hence do not rank as burdens.
17 So Jast. Rashi: There were fugitives from persecution. [The reference is generally held to be to the Syrian persecutions under Antiochus Epiphanes; v. Berliner, Hoffmann Magazin XX, p. 123].
18 As he could see beforehand whether the enemies' spies were on the watch.
19 For fear of spies, lest their whereabouts be disclosed.
20 Panic stricken, in order to flee.
21 According to Samuel, because this had led them astray. According to R. Ila'i b. Eleazar and Rami b. Ezekiel, because the carnage had been wrought by their nail-studded sandals.

The Lantos Demography Example

Reading through a story reporting the death of Tom Lantos, I spotted this:-

Lantos and his wife had two daughters, Annette and Katrina, who between them produced 18 grandchildren, one of whom died young. According to Lantos, his daughters were following through on a promise to produce a very large family because his and his wife's families had perished in the Holocaust.

It reminded me of a post about three weeks ago over at Jewwess. There, Rebecca, the moderator/blogger, wrote, inter alia, this:

The Jewish People Policy Planning Institute (JPPPI) has released its annual report on the state of the Jewish community, with suggestions for improvement...the JPPPI’s main suggestion for improvement? More Jewish children. Seems the ancient precept of p’ru u’rvu [be fruitful and multiply] is still the best advice they can come up with. And they would have the community give middle class families financial incentives to have a third or fourth child. Can you say Big Brother?...Yet, now, maybe because of the mention of money and the desire to put this demographical theory into practice, this suggestion makes my skin crawl. There’s something about using children for a cause that’s just yucky, not to mention the increased social pressure (already so intense in the Jewish community) to have children...Don’t pay people to have children, pay to create communities and programs that will make the children they do have, of their own volition, want to stay.

I commented there that many Western countries do indeed provide/offer financial incentive to increase population. I found that in March 2006, France was boosting its birth rate with incentives for parents offering everything from graduated tax breaks to free family passes for museums and swimming pools. In June 2006, Germany’s coalition government agreed on a financial package that will compensate professional women to take a year’s leave to have children and then return to work. In Austria, in July 2006 there were beefed up benefits for families with children including monthly payouts of $547 for the youngest child until the age of 3, and additional monthly checks ranging from $132 to $192, depending on the age of offspring. Additionally, families are also eligible for a tax benefit of about $64 per month per child. Children also get free school books and don’t have to pay for public transportation to and from school. And in America, in September 2007, Hillary Clinton told told a Congressional Black Caucus forum that every child born in the country should receive a $5,000 baby bond to help pay the costs of college or buying a home.

But, as Rebecca admits, there's nothing wrong with increasing your family for ideological reasons like the Lantos family did.

UPDATE

Oops.

Lantos' wife is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon church). Annette Lantos is a first cousin of the sisters Zsa Zsa, Eva, and Magda Gabor.

But above and here it notes:

In 1950 he married Annette, his childhood sweetheart, with whom he'd managed to reunite after the war...his and his wife's families had perished in the Holocaust.

So, she converted, I guess. Well, the daughters are Jewish anyway, as are the grandkids.

So, This is a Jewess?

Natasha Lyonne(*)...just finished rehearsing for the New Group production of Mike Leigh’s play “Two Thousand Years,” which will begin previews at the Acorn Theater on Jan. 15.

...The play will be Ms. Lyonne’s first legitimate stage credit, and its timing is serendipitous. “My life is very much in the present today,” she said. “And that’s what theater is all about.”

It is a surprise to Ms. Lyonne as much as anyone that she is working at all. Or living, for that matter. After establishing herself in the late 1990s as a talented and refreshingly unorthodox presence in independent films like “The Slums of Beverly Hills” and “But I’m a Cheerleader,” her press coverage shifted to the gossip pages and stayed there. In August 2001 she was arrested in Miami Beach on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. Three years later, while occupying a Manhattan apartment rented to her by the actor Michael Rapaport, she was again arrested, this time for threatening her neighbor and the neighbor’s dog. Mr. Rapaport evicted her in early 2005, then wrote a damning account of the experience in Jane magazine, detailing Ms. Lyonne’s abusive conduct and unhealthy way of life.(**) She later missed several court dates, causing a warrant to be issued for her arrest.

Matters reached their nadir in the summer of 2005 when she checked into Beth Israel Hospital in New York and was put in the intensive care unit with a host of ailments, including hepatitis C. She remained in the hospital for five months.

“I remember being in pain a lot,” said Ms. Lyonne, who says she doesn’t recall much about her stay in the hospital. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, could hardly talk, could barely walk.”

She started her two-decade career when she was barely school age, the child of an Orthodox Jewish family who found herself on “Pee-wee’s Playhouse.” “I was kind of put into this business by my family, by my mother. To be fair, I think she thought it was the right thing, and I definitely responded to it. I was an outgoing child. But I don’t know if it was something I would have done by choice.”

Ms. Lyonne has lived on her own since she was 16 and isn’t in close touch with either of her parents, who divorced when she was young. “I’d love to say that there’s been this great 180 and happy ever after,” she said. “It’s not like I have some really crazy family stuff. I’m just somebody who has distanced myself without condemnation or resentment.”

Her darkest days came to an end in December 2006, when, accompanied by a counselor from the Caron Foundation, a drug and alcohol treatment center, she finally appeared in court to face the 2004 charges. A judge sentenced her to a conditional discharge, based on her staying out of trouble for six months. Since then she has completed roles in four films.

“I’ve always been both sides of the coin,” she said. “I’m very full of life, but at the same time very dismissive of it. Not really highs and lows, just a steady state of ‘Oh, hey, isn’t this great?’ and ‘Who gives a damn anyway?’”

These days, however, she trying to give more of a damn. “I took it about as far as I could,” she said with finality. “And I didn’t die, so I decided to live, basically. Obviously it’s complicated, but it’s also very simple. I wasn’t dead at 27, so I might as well be 30. You’re already in it. You may as well be in a rocking chair some day eating a lobster club.”

Now, This is a Real Jewess Blog Post

If the many Jewish females who blog want to deal with a real Jewess mess, here's one that seems right out of L&O or CSI:NY -

Hundreds mourn for celebrity Realtor Linda Stein

Linda Stein, an original punk rocker turned celebrity Realtor to the stars, was laid to rest Friday as grieving family and friends vowed to seek justice in her bludgeoning death.

Several hundred mourners - from high-end luxury Realtors to music moguls to friends from Stein's humble beginnings - gathered on the Upper West Side at Manhattan's Riverside Memorial Chapel. Eulogies where piped out onto the sidewalk, where dozens more paid their respects to the dynamo businesswoman.

"There are no words to express our shock and indignation," said Rabbi Hirsch, who presided over the service. "Justice will be pursued," he said, adding that Stein, 62, "lived in New York, but New York lived in her. She pulsated to the pulse of New York - she was gutsy."

Stein's daughter, Samantha Stein-Wells, the final speaker, was defiant in her quest to seek justice. "I had to see her one last time," she said. "I had to see what this - did to her. We stood there and we promised justice will be served. We won't stop until justice is served," she vowed.

"I loved my mother so much," she continued. "She was always there by our side," a reference to her sister, Mandy Stein, who found her mother in a pool of blood inside the Fifth Avenue penthouse.

Punk rocker. Realtor. Bludgeoned.

Wow.

And then this follow-up -

Source: Slain Real Estate Broker Fumed About Roof Work

Investigators searching for a suspect in the killing of Linda Stein could be focusing their case on the people repairing the roof of the famed real estate broker's Fifth Avenue home, a project that had infuriated Stein in the weeks before she was killed, a source said. During a meeting at her apartment days before she was killed, Stein, 62, shouted at the superintendent of her building, Edmond McQuaid, because of the damage that the roof repairs had caused to her 18th floor apartment, a source close to Stein said. Stein was livid because the roof work had caused cracks in the ceiling and walls of her apartment at 965 Fifth Ave., the source said.

That reads so, well, Jewess.

Since I know nothing of the deceased, I read this bit -

Linda Stein, a close friend of Sir Elton John, was discovered by her daughter on Tuesday night lying face-down in a pool of blood in the living room of her 18th-floor flat on Fifth Avenue. The coroner said yesterday that the post-mortem examination showed that she died from blows to the head and neck.

Ms Stein, 62, the daughter of a kosher caterer in the Bronx [Adler], was the ex-wife of Seymour Stein, the former president of Sire Records, the label that launched the Ramones, Talking Heads, Madonna and Depeche Mode.

As co-manager of the Ramones, she brought the legendary “New Wave” band to London for a breakthrough concert at the Roundhouse in July 1976 that helped to inspire the British punk movement.

After a divorce, and leaving the Ramones in 1980, Ms Stein began brokering property deals for her friends among rock’n’roll royalty. She found Madonna the flat in Central Park West that is still the star’s New York home and Sir Elton became godfather to one of her two daughters.

Her illustrious client list included Sting, Billy Joel, Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg, Bruce Willis, Michael Douglas and Andrew Lloyd Webber, for whom she got a $6 million duplex in Trump Tower in 1988. She became so successful that she was the model for the estate agent who shows Charlie Sheen’s character an apartment in Oliver Stone’s 1987 film Wall Street.

And Jewess daughter, Mandy Stein, ran in the New York City marathon during the Shiva.

I think that's enough of one or two Jewesses for now.

An Honorary Jewess?

Fashion is hot now in New York.

So hot that even Victoria Beckham showed up to a show:

The time was 10:50 p.m. Monday. Victoria Beckham, sheathed in a minidress so tight that her breasts appeared to be up near her chin, entered the Marc Jacobs show at the Armory on Lexington Avenue, convoyed to her seat by bodyguards and paparazzi.

That must have been a sight.

It was.

The designer was Marc Jacobs. And Victoria's husband, David, is Jewish (his mother).

Two Jews and one British shiksa.

So, can we award Victoria an Honorary "Jewess" status anyway?

A Story "Jewess" Won't Touch

The women aren't Jewish.

Viking queen exhumed to solve mystery

Archaeologists exhumed the body of a Viking queen on Monday, hoping to solve a riddle about whether a woman buried with her 1,200 years ago was a servant killed to be a companion into the afterlife.

"We will do DNA tests to try to find out. I don't know of any Viking skeletons that have been analyzed as we plan to do," Egil Mikkelsen, director of Oslo's Museum of Cultural History, told Reuters at the graveside...And new chemical analysis of bones can also tell what people ate. In Viking times meat, such as elk, was prized while poorer people ate fish.

"If they were mother and daughter they would probably have had the same food. If one woman was a maid they would have had different diets," Mikkelsen said.

...Mikkelsen said he saw no ethical objections to opening the grave, partly because the two were buried so long ago and no one even knew their names.

But I have thought it worthy of mention since Judaism teaches us respect for the dead.

Attacking Goyim; Goyim Attacking

Here's a "New Jewess" -

Okay, so how did I get to her?

First, this caught my eye this morning:

Antisemitic Bosnian soccer fans received a surprise Thursday when Israeli soccer fans did something they did not think they would do: fight back. Three Bosnians are still in the hospital following the incident. The violence occurred during Hapoel Tel Aviv's 3:0 victory over Siroki Brijeg in Bosnia.

According to Hapoel's fans, "an entire bleacher-full of Bosnian fans" began shouting "Sieg Heil" at the Israelis and giving Nazi salutes. In response, one of Hapoel's fans threw a firecracker into the Bosnian bleacher. The firecracker set fire to several seats.

Bosnian police moved in and began hitting Hapoel fans. The fans were then evicted from the stadium.

Then, I found this new film about to premiere:-

Late 16th century. Inside the small cemetery of the Jewish village of "Lodonia" by the Russian-Polish border, two social outcasts are joined in matrimony under the moonlight sky. FISHKE, a lame orphaned bath attendant, weds an older mysterious blind orphaned woman who has come to the village just days before. The marriage, believe the people of "Lodonia," will exorcise the spell of pogroms that has been haunting the village and its Jewish community. But the wedding night proves a disaster, as Fishke, a devoted scholar of Torah, learns the truth about his new wife, a renegade vagabond belonging to a group of Jewish beggars. Now that the villagers have been satisfied she wastes no time and makes a run for it through the dark night, and Fishke, albeit being forced into the marriage, follows her into the woods believing her to be his destined lawful wife in the eyes of his God.

When he finally tracks her down, Fishke is exposed to a world he did not know exist. The group of Jewish outcasts survives by the way of the sword, victimizing their own people in the same way the Polish and Russian soldiers do. Fishke spared for his life by the Beggar's cruel leader and eager to keep his marital vow, joins them at first against his better judgment. However, after a short while, appalled and aghast by their sinister actions he decides to run away [but he's lame!] and things get complicated as the leader's young and pretty mistress uses the opportunity and follows suite. Fueled by anger the leader hunts and tracks Fishke down opting for a struggle for revenge and respect in which he finds his death in the hands of his young trainee. Deprived of a leader the beggars now turn to Fishke who reluctantly gives in for the request and takes on the challenge. But Fishke wishes to change their ways, and instead of preying on his own pitiful people turns his criminal vagabonds against the Russians themselves. His controversial actions reach all the way up to the Tzar who proposes Fishke a deal of a lifetime -- Join your army of Beggars into the escalating war against the Poles and your people will be granted equal rights. Inspired by the ideology of coexistence and the belief in earning one's rights by fulfilling one's duties, Fishke sets out to liberate his people through war and to try and earn his vagabond and torn nation its own piece of land...

Here's the trailer.

This is really going to go over well in Jollywood.

But, there's a third Jewess story:-

A Palestinian from Ramallah turned an 18-year-old Israeli girl he met on the internet into his sex slave, Ynet reported on Friday.

A few months ago Tal (not her real name) met who she thought was her prince charming in an internet chat room. Following a brief period of online correspondence, the two met in person. The Palestinian took Tal out to restaurants and showered her with gifts, and the unsuspecting Israeli teen thought she had found the man of her dreams.

Within a month of their first encounter she was already in love with him, and did not hesitate for a second when he asked her to move into his home in Ramallah. But shortly after the two began living together the man approached Tal and asked that she “comfort” a friend of his. She agreed to sleep with the friend as a one-time gesture for her beloved boyfriend, but was forced to have sex with others as time went by.

Tal was then brought to a lavish villa, where she and several Muslim women granted sexual services to senior Palestinian Authority officials on a regular basis. Eventually Tal managed to escape and return to Israel.

A volunteer in an organization that offers help to Israeli teenagers who have experienced similar traumas told Ynet that Arab girls from Jaffa have also been lured to the territories under false pretenses.
