Plagiarizing "Picture-a-Day" Site

The following is a [Google] translation of an item that appeared at the Qudsmedia news site:

Jerusalem Media Center - sources -
The image ofo one of the popular heritage attraction in the city of Jerusalem, Damascus Gatein 1928, before the Zionist occupation of Palestine.  Noteworthy is the Damascus Gate, or the door of Damascus, or door Nablus, as they say of it, is one of the most important and beautiful gates of the Old City of Jerusalem in Palestine. The main entrance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Wailing Wall, and from it we enter the markets of Jerusalem.

This is a major plagiaristic rip-off from my friend Lenny Ben-David's amazing site, Picture a Day, which utilizes photographs, mainly from the Matson Collection.

His specific Damascus Gate post is here.

And, of course, you caught the phrase:

in 1928, before the Zionist occupation of Palestine

Wait.  Exactly did that "Zionist occupation" begin?

Not in 1967?  Was it in 1948?  No Zionists before 1928?

What is going on?

actually, Damascus Gate is not the regular Arabic name for the gate, which is Bab al-'Amud, meaning Gate of the Column. This refers to a column inside the Gate with a statue of Emperor Hadrian on top. The Romans built it when they rebuilt Jerusalem as Aelia Capitolina after defeating the Bar Kokhba Jewish revolt in 135 CE. It probably lasted in place into the early Arab-Muslim Period in the city. This period started with the Arab Conquest in 638 CE.

Wkilpedia has this:

Of its Arabic names, Bab al-Nasr means "gate of victory," and Bab al-Amud (Arabic: باب العامود‎) means "gate of the column." The latter name, in use continuously since at least as early as the 10th century, preserves the memory of a design detail dating to the 2nd century AD Roman era gate.
