A Risk-Averter is a Disappointment?

A specific problem Daniel Gordis has with Benjamin Netanyahu is:

Yes, Mr. Netanyahu is in many respects "a disappointing, risk-averse leader." But U.S. policy is not helping matters. When Obama asked Netanyahu to agree to a second building freeze, he demanded nothing equally politically suicidal from Abbas. That sort of inequity prolongs the conflict.

Wait.  If what the Pals. propose can be "suicidal", what's the problem with Israel's Prime Minister being a "risk-averse leader"?  What is so disappointing?

Is there anything else the United States does - or does not do - that is not helpful?

Why rock the boat? Consider the following though, as its instructive.

The Prime Minister is fed up the League Of Trembling Israelites in the government and media who are paradoxically warning him not to attack Iran!

I'm sure this is the one area the Daniel Gordises of the world want Netanyahu to be in their own words, "risk-averse." No?
