My Hardtalk Interview Clip

Here it is.

Twenty-three minutes.

The BBC introduction:-

Less than a year ago the future of Jewish settlements in the West Bank looked uncertain.

When Ehud Olmert became prime minister of Israel last May he planned to close outlying settlements as part of a plan of disengagement from the Palestinians - but that plan has since been shelved.

Stephen Sackur talks to Yisrael Medad of The Yesha Council, the main settler organisation, about the future of settlements, the question of their legality under international law and the complex politics of Israel.

I saw the program. I found the interviewer most annoying in that he would not listen to your answers, but would simply repeat his own preconceptions irrespective of the answers you would give. His loaded questions, and his body language rank of insolence. I bet you ten to one if you catch him walking out of the pub he probably would spew of a row of anti-semitic jokes. His inference that a Jew born in the USA has no "connection" to the Land of Israel indicates a total disregard of world history and reeks of anti-semitism.

One point missed was that all the democratic rights he was demanding for the Arabs are now the sole responsibility of the PA. This was the choice of the Arabs (or more accurately, forced upon them by the Oslo Accords, and the subsequent rule of Yasser Arafat), and it is absurd to demand for the Arabs of Ramallah to have the right to vote in Israeli elections, as much as it would be absurd for the Jews of Shilo the right to vote in PA elections. In addition, there is no occupation. All Arab villages are under the rule of the PA, and all Jewish settlements are under the rule of the IDF/Civilian Authority. The interviewer's demagogic statements concerning democracy and occupation are irrelevant.

Kol Hakavod - you did better than very well... and that this BBC jerk could quote only organizations like B'tselem and media like Ha'aretz shows his true colors (oh, 'scuse me, colours)!

You're a better "man" than I am.... I wanted to put tape over his mouth (or worse) so you could talk!

at least they got your name spelled correctly on the webpage!

Yisrael,

You did a magnificent job!

What a yutz that guy was; I only wished he was the one our pals the Pals kidnapped today!

You were calm, cool, collected and had the facts; some of which he wouldn't let you present, but it was so obvious he didn't want truth. He only wanted to berate you and make you lose your temper IMO; did he have any inkling of your background with exposing the media? It must help a great deal in keeping these in your face guys in perspective.

You were such a sweetheart and mensch that even Suha Arafat would have to be charmed :-) What would Batya say?

Warm regards

[this one's anonymous completely, for obvious reasons]

For such a situation, I think it worth considering a sharp, fast kick in the balls. It provides for great viewer entertainment and a wonderful feeling of satisfaction that justice was done!

Congratulations.
Very good
