The Difference Between Construction in Shiloh and...in Shiloh

As my readers know well, the construction and building (and even planning) of houses, schools and other edifices as well as fields, orchards and hothouses are headline material, a subject for UN deliberations, fodder for campus strife and what not.

I live in Shiloh in the Benjamin Region and sort of suffer from all this hullabaloo.

Unlike other Shiloh residents, like those in Illinois, USA.

Here's their barn problem.

Barn problem?

Yes, a problem with a barn:-

The Shiloh Board of Trustees remains divided on how to move forward with the dilapidated Red Barn that continues to sit at the end of Country Lane. Do they pass the bid opening up to $400,000 to restore the building for a new Cultural Arts Center? Or do they tear it down and construct a new building for the center?
After much deliberation, the board remained split during its Jan. 23 committee at large meeting 3-3. Shiloh Mayor Jim Vernier cast the swing vote to pass moving the bid opening to a $300,000 maximum, and a $400,000 finance proposal for the Red Barn rehabilitation. A final vote is expected to take place next month during the full board meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
Village Administrator John Marquart informed the board that the village qualified for a tax exempt note on a loan with Commerce Bank locally for $400,000 to finance the initial improvements.
Trustees Mark Kurtz, Greg O’Neil and Bob Weilmuenster voted in opposition, while Colleen Powers, Tina Warchol and Kurt Burrelsman approved the maximum bid amount be reduced from $400,000 to $300,000.

Just think about that.

And can you imagine me talking about "Greater Shiloh"?

Running Away to Shiloh

One is always amazed at the coincidence of events and names:

Katrina uproots family, now they live in Shiloh

That's Shiloh, Illinois.  In the south-west portion of the state, close by St. Louis.

The story:

Shiloh resident Donna Meyers lived on the east side of New Orleans in 2005 when Katrina started to brew. Meyers’ husband, Kirkwood, a deep sea fisherman, was familiar with the way weather worked in the Gulf of Mexico. And he didn’t like what he saw...“But my husband was watching the water temperatures and the direction of the storm. He said that it wasn’t going to be good and we needed to get out of there.” Meyers and her kids, her mother, her mother-in-law and a menagerie of family pets piled into her sport utility vehicle and headed north.

Shiloh in...Metro East

Shiloh also is located in "Metro-East".  That is, in Illinois.  USA.

SHILOH, Ill. (KMOV) – Police say an alarming number of break-ins have hit multiple cities in the Metro East over the past couple weeks. Shiloh resident Jim Karwoski said he’d left his garage open when he went inside his home. Minutes later, he heard a clanging noise. “The second time I heard the clanging I came out and seen him,” Karwoski said of the burglar.  “He had his car backed right in here in the garage and I said, ‘Hey.’  When I said hey he just hopped in. He had the engine running. He took off, trunk was open and everything.” Karwoski’s brand new edger, blower and other equipment were gone.

Metro-East isn't as bad as the "West Bank", though.

Greater Shiloh to host gathering

DANVILLE — Between 300 and 400 people are expected to attend the Baptist General State Convention fall board meeting in Danville next week.

Meetings, worship and educational sessions will be conducted at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, 609 N. Bowman Ave., Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 24-26. The public is invited to some of the activities.

The Rev. U. Pete Williams, pastor of Greater Shiloh, said the board meeting is conducted each fall in one of the four districts. Greater Shiloh belongs to the Wood River Baptist District Association, the oldest continuous black religious association in the nation, which also will serve as host for the gathering.

There Was A Robbery at Shiloh

Two men sought after robbery at Shiloh business


Police are investigating the armed robbery of Midwest Petroleum late Wednesday night.

According to police, two males wearing ski masks entered Midwest Petroleum at 1551 Hartman Lane around 10:45 p.m. One of the men was armed with a knife and he demanded the clerk open the register. The clerk complied and the robbers took more than $100 from the store's register before fleeing east, according to Shiloh Police Chief Jim Stover. The Fairview Heights Police dog assisted Shiloh Police in tracking the suspects but lost the trail about a block east of where the armed robbery took place.

"We think that's where they might have had a car parked to get away," Stover said. "The K-9 lost the trail completely at that point."

Shiloh police seek shooting suspect

Shiloh police are looking for a man believed to have been involved in a shooting at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Anderson Lane.

Police are looking for Demandrell T. "Boolou" Davis, 27, of 213 Monroe St. in Lebanon. Davis is being sought in connection with the shooting of Broderick Watson at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 1.

Watson, 20, was shot multiple times after he was approached by two suspects. The suspects demanded money and when Watson refused, he was shot several times.

"When he was down they took his money and then shot him a couple more times," said Shiloh Police Chief Jim Stover. "He just recently got out of the hospital. He was very lucky."

A second suspect, Christopher L. Jackson, 21, of 2323 N. 49th St. in Washington Park, is in custody in connection with the shooting of Watson.

Jackson has been charged with four counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and armed robbery. He is in custody at the St. Clair County Jail. His bail was set at $250,000.

Davis is known to frequent Lebanon, O'Fallon, Shiloh and Washington Park. Information in the investigation indicates he may be in the Chicago area.

The Shiloh Police Department is offering a $300 reward for information leading to the location and arrest of Davis. Anyone having information about the whereabouts of Davis is asked to contact the department at 632-9047.
