There's a lot you can learn from what's on and in the ground. Various locations on and around Tel Shiloh including a cistern, Bronze Age wall formations and indications of too shallow topsoil which left too few pottery shards and other artifacts. Which is why we'll be excavating further these coming years in the area around the Canaanite wall.
