Bible, History, Archaeology

This one, you'll note, is from "Jewish Secularists":-

The Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations (CSJO) is pleased to announce...at its upcoming Toronto conference: Jewish Traditions Today: Continuity in Change, a lecture by Professor Douglas R. Frayne of the University of Toronto entitled:

The Roots of Jewish Myths: An Examination of the Flood Story of Genesis 7-9

May 29, 2011, 9:00 a.m. – Guelph Humber Building – Room 304 Humber College – North Campus...

Professor Frayne’s paper will discuss parallels between the Mesopotamian and Biblical accounts of the great flood..an added bonus, site identifications for the homes of the early patriarchs in the western Khabur region of modern Syria will be revealed...from Professor Frayne’s ground-breaking and exhaustive 10-year study of the historical geography of the Khabur river valley during the Old Babylonian period c. 1800 BCE, to which we can now securely date the life of the great patriarch Abraham. The research has revealed the locations of scores of famous Biblical sites named in the Biblical Genesis account.

Among the Biblical place names mentioned, particular focus will be made on the so-called “Garden of Eden.” now positively located at the modern site of Tell Jenediyé on the Khabur River in western Syria, along with the eponymous hometown of Noah, to be situated at modern Bîr Nouh, in the close vicinity of Tell Jenediyé...

By the way, Douglas Frayne is author of four volumes in the Royal Inscriptions of Mesopotamia project.

That should be very interesting.

We often read or hear that some researchers doubt the historicity of events mentioned in the Bible. This is especially true about tales of the Fall, the Flood, the tower of Babel, and miracles that were described in the Gospels. These are accounts that researchers regard as unreliable. They may think them to be legends or myths, and think them unworthy of serious consideration.
We are going to study this difficult subject by considering many examples. This study is especially designed for people who sincerely want to study the historic accuracy of Biblical accounts.
In the text we will introduce many archaeological discoveries that support Biblical accounts. They have many times confirmed information originally found in the Bible.
