Reported on that SAS operation that went wrong -
The eight-strong group, who were escorting a junior diplomat, has now left the country bound for Malta on board HMS Cumberland. However, William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, said the Government intended to send further diplomatic personnel soon to "strengthen dialogue" with rebel leaders.
"I can confirm that a small British diplomatic team has been in Benghazi," Mr Hague said. "The team went to Libya to initiate contacts with the opposition. They experienced difficulties, which have now been satisfactorily resolved. They have now left Libya...This diplomatic effort is part of the UK's wider work on Libya, including our ongoing humanitarian support.
According to reports, guards challenged the SAS team when they arrived at an agricultural compound in the eastern city of Benghazi. They were detained after a search of their bags revealed ammunition, explosives, maps and fake passports.
Fake?!
OMG!
What happens in such cases?
This:
Britain Expels Israel Diplomat Over Fake Passports
In a rare move by a friendly government, Britain expelled an Israeli diplomat on Tuesday to rebuke the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what it says was the fraudulent use of a dozen fake British passports...David Miliband, the British foreign secretary, said there were “compelling reasons” suggesting that Israel was behind the misuse of the British passports and called Israel’s actions “intolerable.”
“The fact that this was done by a friendly country only adds insult to injury,” he said in remarks to the House of Commons. “The actions in this case are completely unacceptable and they must stop.”
Well, what goes around should come around.
