An Erekat Munich Moment

I was watching the late night news wrap-up at midnight last night on Channel One TV and heard Saeb Erekat at a press conference in Munich, sitting alongside Tzipi Livni.

He once again espoused the "Palestinian narrative" of a 10,000-year or so old history in Jericho (I can't, as yet, find a video*).

UPDATE

Okay, now watching the news archived at IBA site and at 9:51 of the Chadashot Shabat, you can hear Erekat say, in English:

"I am the son of Jericho. I'm 10,0000 years old...I'm the proud son of the Natufians and the Canaanites.  I've been there 5,500 years before Yehoshua Bin-Nun came and burned my home town, Jericho...I 'm not going to change my narrative...asking me to accept the Jewish state is to ask I change my narrative...You have two choices, go to the UN to change your name or accept my recognition of the registered name."

That myth has been dealt with.

What hasn't been dealt with is Israel's officialdom's shtum when such rantings are uttered in public (and she was sitting right next to him although I think I did see Ms. Livni raise an eyebrow or maybe simply lift her head in a gesture of "oh, there he goes again").  [See now below]

Erekat claims as ancestors all sorts of peoples - but mentioned in the Bible.

Erekat, for his part, said the Israeli demand that the PA recognize Israel as a Jewish state is unacceptable because, he claimed, he represents the Biblical Canaanites who “lived in the region 5,500 years before Joshua Bin-Nun came and burned my hometown Jericho.”

This is more of what I've termed "Palestinianism of Disinventivity" but it must stop because all it intends to do is to undermine the Jewish national ethos, which is bad enough.  Buit there is more. This line of thinking is intended to provide the Arabs, undeservedly, with an advantage: that they were, somehow, here first and therefore we Jews owe them rights, especially of "return".

He is a Canaanite (or Jebusite or whatever) as much as I am an Etruscan.

...The Palestinian creativity is worthy of the "grotesque award."...Any Israeli listening to chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat explain to the participants of the Munich conference why the Palestinian Authority refuses to recognize the Jewish state, would immediately give him the "best joke of the year" and "most prolific imagination" awards.

Erekat, a Bedouin of Jordanian origin, carried on and on about how the Palestinians' national narrative claims that they are the descendants of the biblical Canaanites, and therefore "they were here first" and this land belongs to the Palestinians.

None of the European delegates protested, and all Justice Minister Tzipi Livni did was chuckle.

"Historian" Erekat explained that recognizing the Jewish nature of Israel would infringe on the Canaanite narrative, which gives the Palestinian prior claim to the land of Israel. This new "birth certificate" makes the question of the Palestinians' "paternity" all that more poignant, as they are made up of the various Arab nations.Erekat, in what can only be described as unprecedented folly, explained that the reason for the Palestinians' refusal to recognize Israel as the Jewish state stemmed from this prior Canaanite ownership, which they have no intention of giving up. In Munich, it seems, Erekat had declared the inception of "Canaanite Palestine" across the entire area of Israel. Cue the applause.

In the 1960s... Arafat's search for a "father" led him to claim that the Palestinians were the descendants of the biblical Jebusites.

...Many of the creators of the Palestinian narrative have claimed over the years that the Palestinians were of Philistine ancestry...To assert their claim to this land and justify their refusal to recognize Israel, the Palestinians have made up new forefathers -- the Canaanites. According to both the Bible and the Quran, these idol worshipers had become extinct and their land was given to the Jews -- so Erekat's statement actually did him a disservice.

It is natural for every bastard to invent a birth certificate naming a respectable father, but why would the Palestinians seek such dubious ones, and when are we going to fully realize with whom we are dealing?

Jewish Identity vs. Palestinian Disinventivity

You are aware that I have suggested that the Arabs who presume to call themselves "Palestinians" in a paradigm sense of "inventivity" promote an ideology I term "Palestinianism" which is predicated on the disinventivity model of nationalism.

In other words, these Arabs claim to be who they aren't and assert that Jews aren't who they actually are.  In short, they deny the ethos of Jewish nationalism.

In brief:
 

Inventivity is the foundation necessity of Palestinianism

They do that by basically fabricating history, ignoring history and denying history and all the facts thereof.

Identity theft.

Al-Quds international institution initiated its global campaign “It is Al-Quds…It will never be Yerushalem”...Yasin Hamoud, director-general of the institution, told a news conference on Wednesday in Cairo that the campaign is aimed at shedding light on the status of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) following 46 years of its occupation.  Hamoud added that the campaign would work on actively involving the issue of Jerusalem in the political and media discourse and rallying the Arab and Muslim streets to provide moral and financial support for the holy city and its people...

...Hamid Al-Ahmer, chairman of Al-Quds institution, stated that the Aqsa Mosque is being exposed to Judaization attempts to build the so called Jewish temple in place of the Dome of the Rock, warning that the daily violations at the Mosque is aimed at dividing it between Muslims and Jews.  Al-Ahmer called on the Arab and Islamic governments and peoples to show firm stance against Israel’s violations in Jerusalem and to adopt a comprehensive strategy to consolidate the Arab and Islamic identity of the holy city.

Contra Palestinian Disinventivity

Jerusalem Denial you know.  What I term Palestinian Disinventivity.

Read this:

A stamp seal bearing the image of a roaring lion and a Hebrew legend was found 

during the excavations of the Western Wall Plaza, in the Old City of Jerusalem. The seal is only the second of its kind unearthed in Israel, the first being the seal of Shema‘, a high official of King Jeroboam II, discovered in Megiddo more than a century ago. The new find, moreover, is the first seal with a lion motif to be published from Iron Age II Jerusalem and one of only a few with a lion motif from Judah...The building was abandoned and destroyed in the first quarter of the sixth century BCE...After its collapse, the house was

Is There An Arab Intellectual?

As found at EOZ, from a Jordanian newspaper Ad Dostour:

Dr. Fadel al-Rubaie denied any relationship of any kind between the Torah and Palestine, stressing that the names, places and events that came in the Torah are Yemeni names and locations, and some still exist even today.

He denies strongly that Joshua Ben-Nun had crossed the Jordan River to Jericho, and inscriptions and figures available indicate that Joshua Ben-Nun actually traveled to the land of Yemen. This was all said in a lecture given by Dr. Rubaie on Tuesday evening in the Jordanian Writers Association Forum moderated by Dr.. Hisham Ghassib...He stressed that Jerusalem is not Jerusalem, and Jews have no trace in the Palestinian territories, and if there is a housing in Palestine from the Jews it is from the sons of the Arab tribes that migrated from Arabian Peninsula...Israel went to revive the Hebrew language, originally a Yemeni dialect.

The lecture included a heavy presence of intellectuals and other interested members.

After you've stopped laughing, think about this:

is there truly an Arab intellectual?

Remember my inventivity theory?

No, not  theory of inventive problem solving developed by the Soviet inventor and science fiction author Genrich Altshuller and known as TRIZ, the Russian abbreviation. He set out three primary findings of his research.

The first is that problems and solutions are repeated across industries and sciences, the second that patterns of technical evolution are also repeated across industries and sciences, and the third and final primary finding is that the innovations used scientific effects outside the field in which they were developed. In the application of TRIZ all these findings are applied to create and to improve products, services, and systems.

No, mine is different.

I state:

I use the term "inventivity" to note the Arab propensity to create an artificial nationalist conceptualization of themselves and the term "disinventivity" I employ to characterize the Arab habit of fictionalizing and denying any historical Jewish presence in the Land of Israel either by simple non-recognition or by 'adopting' sites, locations and events as "Palestinian", which I also call Palestinianism.

So, there you have it.

Now the "Fake Graves" Story

I have attended meetings devoted to the efforts to provide proper and adequate security for the Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives. A friend, Jeff Daube, is very active. The desecration of those graves during the 19-year Jordanian illegal occupation when tens of thousands were disturbed, destroyed and renoved for construction purposes as well as for walkways and latrine covers is well documented. The desecration continues and recently American elected officials were stoned there.

But this item highlights what I have termed the 'inventivity/disinventivity' model of Palestinianism, whereby the Arabs make-up elements of their presumed historical connections to this land as a national group and at the same time attempt to deny and delegitimize any proven Jewish connection to the Land

The occupation plants thousands of fake graves around Al-Aqsa

A Jerusalemite Foundation unveiled a significant escalation in the occupation authorities’ activities in implementing [sic] fake Jewish graves around Al Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem, attempting to “forge and Judaize the city’s history.”

Al-Aqsa Foundation for Waqf and Heritage said, in a report released on Monday that the occupation, through its executive power in the city of Jerusalem, is implanting [or is that implementing, see above] thousands of fake Jewish graves around Al-Aqsa Mosque and in the Old City, under governmental decisions...The foundation considered that through such operations, the occupation intends to Judaize all the area surrounding Al-Aqsa as well as the Old City, and is trying to impose its control on Palestinian endowment lands in order to implant graves, settlements, Talmudic gardens and Jewish institutions. It added: “The occupation is falsifying the geography, the history and the monuments in order to legitimize the implantation of the Jewish fake graves and Jewish fake holy sites.”

The report pointed out that the empty graves were implanted at the pretext of carrying out repair and maintenance works as well as engineering surveys and statistics. It is noted that the Israeli authorities prohibit the restoration of the Islamic historical graves in the city of Jerusalem and are demolishing and washing away hundreds of them.

How can we make peace with such an irrational mindset shared by the majority of Arabs in Judea and Samaria?

More Pal. Disinventivity

Rabbi Chaim Richman points out another Arab disinventivity, this one backwards:

Comparing "Nakba Day" to the destruction of the Holy Temple is the brainchild of a mindset which is beyond mere manipulation and cynicism…[but]...El Sana and his associates can’t seem to make up their minds.

On the one hand they constantly decry the “Judaization” of Jerusalem, denying that there ever was a Holy Temple or any Jewish connection to the city that was never a capital for any people on the face of the earth other than the Jews; the city mentioned in the Bible over 700 times, and not one time in the Koran. But now, as it suits them, they compare their self-inflicted loss of that which they never possessed with the destruction of that which they deny ever existed.

So according to MK El Sana, it turns out that there really was a Holy Temple? That means that there really was a Jewish Jerusalem 2,000 + years ago.*

That means that there really is a historical, religious, national, moral, and ethical raison d’être for Israel to reclaim Jerusalem and re-Judaize it. This is great news, and just in time to celebrate Jerusalem Day this Sunday, May 20th, the 45th anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem and its unification by the forces of the IDF.

Interviewer: Do you agree that in Jerusalem, there are places that are holy to the Muslims, the Jews and the Christians?

Ikrima Sabri: No, not to the Jews. I didn't say to the Jews. Omar Ibn Al-Khattab didn't find any synagogues of the Jews. There weren't any.

Interviewer: So in your opinion, today there are no places whatsoever in Jerusalem that are holy to the Jews?

Ikrima Sabri: No, none. They build new synagogues, but there are no archaeological remains [pertaining to the Jews]. For many years, they have been digging for archaeological remains, but they haven't found anything. How can we acknowledge something when they themselves admit that they have found nothing?

The Petering Out of Beinartarism

Prescript:  I selected the title a day before David Gerstman sent out his critique.

In his April 19th response to Daniel Godis in the Jerusalem Post, Peter Beinart writes:

...I also believe in something called Jewish honor. I believe that given the ethical visions we spun during our long night of powerlessness, that honor is at stake in the way we wield power over those Palestinians who live under Jewish control. I believe that when we help Israeli Arabs live as full citizens within Israel and help Palestinians become citizens of their own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, we are not betraying the bonds of Jewish peoplehood. To the contrary, we are honoring the ethical impulses that give Jewish peoplehood deeper meaning.

If up until now Beinart has played the democracy card, the liberal card, the demographic card*, he now, spluttering about in an ever-deepening vorex he has set spinning for himself, pulls out two more: Jewish honor and Jewish ethics and defines them un-Jewishly and even worse.

But even this aspect was spun out over a hundred years ago by a Jewish-born convertesd-to-Christian female British press baron, Rachel Sassoon Beer, in her opposition to Zionism for the reason that the Jewish people would have to cooperate with the Ottoman Empire which in 1895 was massacring Armenians - in other words because of the Armenian problem, the Jewish problem could not be resolved:-

The anti-Semitic fervor exposed by the Dreyfus Affair strengthened the argument for a Jewish homeland. The Observer was early to note the significance of the movement to create “a Jewish autonomous state in Syria.” Rachel was skeptical of the idea. She not only feared it would “disrupt integration” and whip up allegations of dual loyalty, but also objected because it would require the Jews to strike a deal with the Ottoman Turks. “It is to be hoped, at any case, that the Jews in England are not so anti-Christian as to be bribed by any offers of land in Palestine for their convenience with the extermination that is taking place of the Christian Armenians,” she wrote in an 1896 Sunday Times editorial.

There is a strong echo of a blend of masochistic irrational ethics and honor in that approach in Beinart's thinking: to save the so-called "Palestinians", we Jews must subvert our own needs. That once we have achieved power we must yield it up by distilling it and reducing its effectiveness to be inadequate to the threats facing us.

What organ sacrifices itself for another whose own moral base is almost non-existent?  What national group must prefer the benefit of another and moreover, one that not only intends evil for the Jews but has no real intent to improve the lives of its own future citizemns?

Beinart extends the self-destructive tendency he has chosen for himself to the entire Jewish people in the name of values that will not be applied even to the aggressive nationalism seeking to disidentify Jewish national ethos, history, culture, civilization and to kill as many Jews as possible.

That is ethics?  That is honor?

That is Beinartism.

Maybe he is an alleged sheikh?

And to think the Romans went to all that trouble and built an arch showing them removing appurtenances from the alleged Temple they destroyed.
