In a new post, Richard Silverstein serves as a leaker spout for an article at NTG which, he claims

IDF Killed Three of Its Own Soldiers After Declaring Hannibal Directive

He quotes, in translation, this section:

"As a result of activation of the Hannibal Directive, three IDF soldiers were killed and 120 [ed., the actual number was 160] Palestinian civilians were killed from cannon fire [as a result of IDF fire that destroyed the surrounding neighborhood]."

The original Hebrew is so:

כתוצאה מהפעלת "נוהל חניבעל" נהרגו שלושת הלוחמים, וככל הנראה כ-120 אזרחים פלסטינים מירי פגזים. 

However, later down the piece, it reads:

"הכוח נתקל בחוליה כשהיה בשטח פתוח צמוד לבתים וזיהו פיר לא רחוק משם. לשם הכניסו את הנעדר...
לאחר שנפתחה לעבר הכוח אש משמעותית ממנה נפגעו ככל הנראה כלל הלוחמים
הכוחות זיהו שמדובר בחטיפה ועל פי דיווחים הפעילו "נוהל חניבעל", במסגרתו צה"ל מפעיל אש לכיוון החוטפים. 

which, in English, is

The forces [Sayeret Givati, commanded by Benaya Sarel] encountered a group of terrorists in the open, close by some houses not far from there [where the snatch took place] and identified a tunnel opening.  There was where they dragged down the missing soldier [Hadar Goldin].  After significant fire was opened at them [the IDF], from which most of the soldiers were hit, they realized that a kidnapping was occurring and, in accordance with the "Hannibal Directive", whereby the IDF shoots in the direction of the kidnappers...

Since the other two soldiers killed, Sarel and Lial Gidoni, were not kidnapped, it seems illogical that the "Hannibal" fire was responsible for their deaths.

In any case, this conclusion of Silverstein:

It’s important to note that nowhere in this report does it say that the Hamas fighters killed the three IDF soldiers who died during this skirmish (though it does say the cell may’ve fled into the tunnel with Goldin’s body).  The entire premise is that the IDF killed them as a result of the massive amount of fire it used after the Hannibal Directive was declared.  This fact has never been reported in the Israeli media.  

is wrong as (a) it does say that the soldiers were hit with Hamas fire;  and (b) he does not deal with the very apparent contradiction or, at the least, seemingly incorrect order of events in the NRG story. 

A comment there, from 'Black Canary', notes the inconsistency of another point, that Haaretz reported the story at the time differently.

In any case, when will Silverstein learn Hebrew?

Is Silverstein Provoking Arabs to Violence?

Following Silverstein's posting about Jews being provocative [if you do not wish to click on his site and also, if you want to leave comments, go here] and thereby causing the Arabs to throw rocks, two things happened today:

First,

Dozens of riot police were deployed to quell a Muslim riot on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City on Friday.

Israel Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said more than 100 Muslims began throwing rocks at a police location following Friday prayers, prompting the police to enter the compound.

Note: Jews do not ascend the Temple Mount on Fridays.

Second,

2 US Congressmen Elliot Engel and Jerald Nadler, along with Malcolm Hoenlein and other VIPs were touring the Mount of Olives with the JewishPress.com this morning when they came under a barrage of stones from Arabs exiting a nearby mosque.

Since the Mount of Olives cemetery has nothing to do with being a Moslem holy site vying for primacy over any Jewish site - like the excuse given for the Temple Mount contretemps - maybe these Arabs read Silverstein and figured they have 'cover' from a Jew to keep up the violent activity.

Is that possible?

I see police breaking into the mosque. I have no idea what preceded this. I don’t care the reason for police violating the sanctity of the mosque, it’s an egregious breach of its sacred status.

hundreds of Muslim worshippers clashed with police at Jerusalem's Temple Mount earlier on Friday.

Following Friday prayers, worshippers began hurling rocks at the Mughrabi Bridge at the entrance to the Temple Mount, which prompted Israeli police forces to enter the plaza and attempt to scatter the protest.

Israeli police said that dozens of protesters gathered inside the Al-Aqsa mosque after hurling rocks at security forces, who, in a rare move, came to the entrance of the mosque and used stun grenades to scatter the protesters.

Eleven policemen and 15 Palestinians were wounded as a result of the clashes. Four Palestinians were arrested.

A rock throwing Arab mob attacked on Friday, in front of a mosque in the Ras Al-Amud neighborhood, a group that included Congressmen Elliot Engel and Jerald Nadler. The two legislators from New York State were on tour of the Mount of Olives Cemetery, along with Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Malcolm Hoenlein, and Rabbis Abraham and Menachem Lubinsky, founders of the International Committee for the Preservation of Har HaZeitim. Chaim Levinson published a shameful piece of pandering in Haaretz that masqueraded as journalism in which he actually published the lies of the settlements security coordinator and director in which they claimed (without a shred of supporting evidence) that peace activists had been the ones provoking the violence. Levinson had the chutzpah to call this schandeh a mere “confrontation.”

Richard "Tikun Olam" Silverstein Admits to Criminal Behavior?

According to this New Tork Times story on Shamai Leibowitz, was Richard Silverstein complicit in criminal behavior? Should he have been prosecuted?:

When Shamai K. Leibowitz, an F.B.I. translator, was sentenced to 20 months in prison last year for leaking classified information to a blogger, prosecutors revealed little about the case. They identified the blogger in court papers only as “Recipient A.”

...Mr. Leibowitz, a contract Hebrew translator, passed on secret transcripts of conversations caught on F.B.I. wiretaps of the Israeli Embassy in Washington...according to the blogger, Richard Silverstein...Mr. Silverstein offered a rare glimpse of American spying on a close ally. He said he had burned the secret documents in his Seattle backyard after Mr. Leibowitz came under investigation in mid-2009, but he recalled that there were about 200 pages of verbatim records of telephone calls and what seemed to be embassy conversations.

...Mr. Silverstein, 59, writes a blog called Tikun Olam, named after a Hebrew phrase that he said means “repairing the world.” The blog gives a liberal perspective on Israel and Israeli-American relations. He said he had decided to speak out to make clear that Mr. Leibowitz, though charged under the Espionage Act, was acting out of noble motives...Mr. Silverstein said he got to know Mr. Leibowitz, a lawyer with a history of political activism...“I see him as an American patriot and a whistle-blower, and I’d like his actions to be seen in that context,” Mr. Silverstein said...Mr. Silverstein took the blog posts he had written based on Mr. Leibowitz’s material off his site after the criminal investigation two years ago. But he was able to retrieve three posts from April 2009 from his computer and provided them to The New York Times.

The blog posts make no reference to eavesdropping, but describe information from “a confidential source,” wording Mr. Silverstein said was his attempt to disguise the material’s origin...

So, Silverstein admits to being a chief participants in the events that sent Leibowitz to prison. He seems to be, upon his own confession, the recipient of and still the possessor of classified US intelligence information.  He is, it appears, the previously unnamed “blogger.”

Silverstein claims to have burned the transcripts when Leibowitz came under investigation. Is that a fair case too be prosecuted for obstruction of justice?  Is Silverstein's claims that Leibowitz’s motives were pure and good, because they were to hurt Israel rather than hurt the United States, a defense against prosecution and eventual conviction?

They didn't help Leibowitz.  Why then should they assist Silverstein?

Will the Attorney-General now initiate criminal proceedings against Silverstein?

Richard Silverstein Is A Child Molester (Not Really But... and No Pun Intended)

Richard Silverstein uses a weird sense of humor or a feeble attempt at satire to be critical of the Moskowitz Zionism Prize and published this post at his blog:-

Dr. Irving Moskowitz, bingo king, hospital mogul and settler real estate magnate, today issued a call for nominations for the 2011 Moskowitz-Kahane Prize for Zionism. Candidates must be true believers in Jewish supremacy over all of Biblical Israel and be proficient in Krav Maga and all aspects of AK-47 maintenance. It wouldn’t hurt if they’d killed or seriously maimed a Sand Nigger. Video of candidates dousing hot oil on Israeli police during settlement evacuations is a definite plus. Attendance at a Baruch Marzel anti-Arab pogrom is a must. If you’ve called for hanging an Israeli prime minister who gives up an inch of Jerusalem, you’re our kinda guy. Silverstein is not only an ideological pervert, who injects his oral mucous membrane with its lingual papillae in places no sane human being, let alone a Jew, would stick a dactyl, but he isn't funny.

His language is guttersnipe, his examples of previous "winners" are so outlandish that anyone would know he's trying to be a temper tantrum thrower and his too obvious hate is way too spewful to be contained in a blog.

A comment there notes, correctly, that AK-47s ('Klatchnikov') are not in use by the civilian revenants residing in Judea and Samaria and so he folds under protest:

Settlers use AK-47s. I’ve seen pictures of them holding them. But in due deference I’ll consider changing my text...

Another comment actually manages to be a bit funny of Silverstein:

bit confused here. are you upset that there is an award, or that you have no chance of winning it?

There follows an exchange and Seattle-based Silverstein writes:

Oh, I diss settler rabbis all the time, which is what this guy is whether he’s on the wrong or right side of the Green Line

I tried to leave a comment myself but I think I'm still banned from almost two years ago.

I really don't appreciate people who presume they can dish it out, but can't take any flak in return. Smacks of fascism.
