Now, We're "Strangling"

Straight from the March 22 edition of News From Ramallah (and at Wafa here, but less the 'strangling' or 'choking' or 'suffocated'= يخنق ):

The Council of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the occupied city of Jerusalem warned of the preparations being made by the Israeli occupation authorities [note: the event has nothing to do with "officila Israel"] to hold the festival "Training the Passover Sacrifices" with the participation of senior rabbis of the temple and singers and TV channels in the Umayyad palaces adjacent to Al-Aqsa Mosque on its southern side.

The festival, announced by the Temple Mount organization, will be held on on Monday, while preparations will begin on Sunday.

The Council noted in a statement that the occupation, for half a century, has strangled the Al-Aqsa Mosque with Judaic projects [wow], claiming to be urban and cultural projects, exploiting the Jewish holiday season, excavations and daily incursions. To the Talmudic gardens and temples of the temple, and today seeks to this dangerous festival.

It stressed that "the Umayyad palaces and all that surrounds Al-Aqsa Mosque is an integral part of the Islamic Waqf, which is a pure right of Muslims, and no one has the right to attack or change its function."

The statement said that "this act of intimidation is a violation of the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a step of the Judaization will not be silent on them, which is rejected and denied, because silence on them will give extremist groups the green light to crawl inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

He warned the Awqaf Council to take such a step, which provoked the feelings of Muslims, and may lead to things that do not praise the punishment [? terror?]

By the way, since September, over 12,000 Jews who observed strict purity restrictions ascended to the Temple Mount. Among them a group of 50 Rabbis.

Post-Passover New York Goes For...Bagels

What can you do? It's New York.

Passover’s Over, and Bagels Are Back, Big

...Mr. Ahmed and other bagel makers say that the first business day after the holiday ends — Friday — is typically one of their busiest days of the year as Jewish customers line up to observe the passing of at least eight days of yeast privation.

...During Passover, many Jews avoid leavened products in commemoration of the exodus from Egypt, during which, according to Old Testament tradition, the Israelites had so little time to flee that the bread they were baking did not have time to rise, and came out of the ovens as matzo...“Generally,” he said, “we do one and a half times” the normal business on the day after Passover ends.

...Lenny’s Bagels, on Broadway at 98th Street, was open during Passover. But Benjamin Choi, the owner, said that business was down 20 percent during the eight-day holiday. He said he typically makes up for that as the holiday ends...“On an average day, we sell 50 dozen,” he said. “Thursday night and Friday, it’s 70 dozen.”

...Reform Jews typically celebrate Passover for seven days, said Rabbi Andy Bachman, the senior rabbi at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, Brooklyn...Rabbi Bachman said he knows more people who are hungry for pizza or pasta, which are also off limits during Passover, than for bagels.

“Maybe what that tells you is that what we’re slowly experiencing is the Americanization of Jewish eating proclivities,” Rabbi Bachman said. “People will go out for more American food than the classic Jewish ethnic food of the bagels. People rush to eat after the Yom Kippur fast, but most people I know don’t rush for a bagel. They go for a slice with some pasta.”

Funny, the NYTimes is enamored with bagels. They had a story just last November.

That White House - Roundup

From the White House Briefing:-

Q And one other thing, on the Seder tonight, will the President stay the whole time and how many people are expected to attend?

MR. GIBBS: You know, the truth is I think there's about 17 to 20 people. He'll certainly stay the whole time. This is largely an offshoot of an event -- I use the word "event" somewhat loosely -- last year. I think we were in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Eric Lesser organized for some folks this event and we got back to the hotel, it was the basement of a -- of this hotel and asked the President if he'd like to come and the President accepted the invitation. And I think -- I did not go, but somebody told me that at the event that they said, next year let's do this at the White House, and -- (laughter) -- here we are.

So, unclear what predication will be made tonight about where next year's will be, but we'll --

Q Who's leading the Seder? Who's leading it? Who's doing the service?

MR. BURTON: Shared.

MR. GIBBS: I don't know -- what was it?

MR. BURTON: It's a shared leader. Everybody will.

Q Rahm?

MR. GIBBS: The truth is Eric Lesser is the person that has organized most of this both last year and this year.
