Tracking down news items relating to Shiloh, where I live, can be hilarious at times.

First Bank robbed in Shiloh

Shiloh police are offering a $500 reward for the identity of the man who robbed a First Bank branch inside the Dierberg's supermarket on Greenmount Crossing Drive shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday.

That township is just east of St. Louis, Missouri.

Not in Binyamin Regional Council.

Residents in Calumet County [Wisconsin] living near Plum Creek are being warned their water may be contaminated because of farm runoff.  The state is advising people in the area to keep themselves, their pets and farm animals away from the site....The DNR [Department of Natural Resources] says the runoff occurred after it rained."Manure left the field, probably due to precipitation and got into concentrated flow channels and tributaries to Plum Creek," said Ben Uvaas, DNR Agricultural Specialist...The DNR says Shiloh Dairy spread the liquid manure, and is responsibe for the clean-up.

Woman killed in two-car crash near Shiloh

Victim died at scene on FM 20 in Bastrop County.

A 73-year-old Bastrop woman was killed in a two-car crash this morning near Shiloh.

About 10:25 a.m., Betty Brooks was turning from Solomon Lane onto FM 20 about a mile south of Texas 71 when she pulled her Buick sedan in front of a Ford pickup traveling on FM 20, according to the Department of Public Safety. The driver of the pickup, Cole Williams, was not injured.

Brooks, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Too bad, though, that I had to find out this way.

KKK flyers distributed in Shiloh

Newsletters depicting blazing crosses and white hooded Ku Klux Klansmen were distributed in Shiloh just weeks before a nearby cross burning.

The pamphlets, calling for "the preservation of the white race" and peppered with racial slurs, were tossed onto the lawns of several upscale Shiloh subdivisions last month.

Authorities said they were unsure if the sudden KKK appearance emboldened the cross burners. Early Saturday morning, a 5-foot wooden cross was burned on a black man's front lawn a few miles away in Belleville.

Shiloh police said they received a complaint about the KKK distribution. They said the documents, which made no threats, were distributed on several streets in subdivisions off Hartman Lane.

Too bad, though, that I had to find out this way.
