Minister of Defense, Mr. Ehud Barak, approved the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz' recommendation on Sunday evening (Mar. 20) to appoint Brig. Gen. Yoav (Poly) Mordechai to the position of IDF Spokesperson.

Brig. Gen. Mordechai served in various positions dealing with intelligence and planning and has a bevy of experience in commanding operations. Until November, 2010, he served as Head of the Civil Administration in the Judea and Samaria region..

Brig. Gen. Yoav (Poly) Mordechai...served as a combat soldier in the 51st battalion of the infantry Golani Brigade. In the year 1984 he went to officer's course after which he served as an officer in the 51st battalion between the years 1985-1986. In the year 1986 he continued on to serve as an officer in the Research Department of the Intelligence Corps and in 1987 went to study Arabic in a year-long Israel Security Agency course.

Between the years 1988-1996 he held numerous positions in the operational unit of the Intelligence Corps....Throughout the years 2001-2003 he was appointed head of the Joint Security Committee until his position as head of coordination and liaison with the Gaza Strip.

In the year 2005 he went to study in the National Security College for a year and in the year 2007 was given the rank of Brig. Gen. as head of the Civil Administration in the Judea and Samaria region..[he]...has a Master's Degree in Government and Politics and another Master's Degree in National Security from the National Security College.
