Comment Left at Time Educational Supplement

Para. 150 of the decision is not in anyway a legal element of judgment. It states that Zionism is not an intrinsic part of Judaism. To state that is not only factually wrong (the links between the people of Israel and its homeland was fashioned from the outset) but historically incorrect (the Jewish people always sought - and succeeded - in returning to its land. Zionism is the modern expression of a 3000 year old religious tenet.

According to this report, on the Temple Mount today, there was an "atmosphere fraught with tension and anger".

The "proof":-

I'm Quoted in Florida

Here is my comment to the hit piece on Irving Moskowitz in a Florida newspaper,

Miami Beach Man's Millions Thwart Middle East Peace

I recall the telephone interview (my description by Terence is from a photograph btw, as we never met).  His questions seemed to reveal not only a strong animosity but a pretend ignorance.  I would suggest there was also non-pretend ignorance since I moved to Israel in 1970 from Queens NY.  I last lived in The Bronx in 1954.  Just two comments.

a) This claim: "To critics, this was a breach of international law: An accord signed at the Fourth Geneva Convention in 1949 held that no nation can "transfer" its own civilian populations into an occupied territory."   This is misconstrued.  In any case, since thousands of Jews lived in the area that Israel administers beyond its sovereign borders prior to 1948, at which time they were ethnically cleansed, and that area was originally to become the territory of the Jewish National Home as per the international law of the League of Nations in 1922, that "crime" of "transfer of population" is completely non-applicable.

b)  As for this claim, that Moskowitz money is "supporting the elimination of Palestine", let's be clear, there is no "Palestine" and there never was, as a geo-political entity.  If there is an Arab Palestine, it is Jordan, which was part of the Mandate area.  To be fair, I will go on record as saying that the creation of such a state would be a great security danger for Israel, would undermine regional stability, would continue to oppress its own population as well as cojoin with terror groups either Iran-supported or al-Quaida oriented.  Nothing truly positive could develop.

Yodeling in YESHA

From Steve Plaut:

One of the best Country-Western songs that is still (or once again) popular these days is the version by Susie Bogguss of "I want to be a cowboy's sweetheart."  You should take a listen to it here .

It is actually a remake of an old song from 1935 by a cowgirl singer named Patsy Montana.

Well, I thought I would compose my own 2013 version of the tune, which really is not complete without the yodeling.   So here it is.  You might want to include it in the last segment of your Passover Seder:

I Want to Be a Settler's Sweetheart

I want to be a settler's sweetheart
I want to learn to shoot and to ride
I want to ride o'er the hills and the deserts
Out east of that old Green Line
I want to hear the leftists howlin'
While the sun sinks in the West
I want to be a settler's sweetheart
That's the life I love the best

(Yodeling Interlude)

I want to ride my Jeep goin' at a run
I want to feel the wind in my face
Far off from them Tel Aviv lights
Lots of Samarian space
I want to slap an anarchist's puss
Flipping em birds from Ariel above
I want to shoot my M16,  Od'da'le ee hee
Oh that's the life that I love

(Yodeling Interlude)

I want to be a settler's sweetheart
I want to learn to shoot and to ride
I want to ride o'er the hills and the deserts
Out east of that old Green Line
I want to hear the leftists howlin'
While the sun sinks in the West
I want to be a settler's sweetheart
That's the life I love the best

(Yodeling Interlude)

So, Obama Said

Obama continued:
“Four years ago, I stood in Cairo in front of an audience of young people -- politically, religiously, they must seem a world away. But the things they want, they’re not so different from what the young people here want. They want the ability to make their own decisions and to get an education, get a good job; to worship God in their own way; to get married; to raise a family.”
Perhaps. But the problem is how their wants are to be interpreted. It is a miracle of self-imposed ignorance that Obama makes no mention of what has happened in those four years. In country after country radical Islamists have been taking over who define what they want as genocide against the Jews and Israel being wiped off the map. The moderate young people Obama has described are being repressed. Some have fled Egypt. Obama has done nothing to help them...Does a mirror image exist of equivalency? If Obama really did comprehend the situation he would press a lot harder on the Palestinian side. Every time he has asked for help, Israel has said “yes”; the Palestinian Authority and Hamas has said “no.”

Obama’s view, like that of many others, disregards these realities. Imagine that with a straight face, Obama could say: “Political leaders will never take risks if the people do not push them to take some risks. You must create the change that you want to see.”

A Little Lamb Bothers Them

Angry over the Temple Mount:-

Hamas warned the occupation leaders of the consequences of "the desecration" of Al-Aqsa Mosque and its compound, and called on the Palestinian people to confront the occupation crimes.

"We in Hamas warn the Zionist occupation and its extremist leaders of the consequences of storming Al-Aqsa Mosque and the desecration of its courtyards. We hold the occupation fully responsible for the serious repercussions of holding their ceremony in the Buraq Square [Western Wall Plaza], which is an integral part of Al-Aqsa Mosque," a statement issued by Hamas on Tuesday says....The statement called on the Arab leaders, meeting in Doha, to take effective and practical decisions that protect Al-Aqsa and other holy sites from the danger of Judaization.

It also called on the Palestinian people to intensify their presence in Al-Aqsa Mosque [the Wicked Witches of the Waqf] in order to protect it from the occupation crimes.

I guess little lambs bother them.

P.S.

Arab leaders set up $1 billion Arab fund for Jerusalem

Doha: The Arab League on Tuesday approved a Qatari proposal to set up a $1 billion fund for Arab East Jerusalem, which Palestinians want as the capital of an independent state under any peace deal with Israel...to finance projects and programmes that would maintain the Arab and Islamic character of the city and reinforce the steadfastness of its people," the draft resolution said.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the fund to help protect the Arab character of the city and urged Arab states to contribute to it.

"The Israeli occupation is working in a systematic and hurried way to Judaise East Jerusalem, change its features and uproot its Palestinian inhabitants, attacking the al-Aqsa Mosque and its Muslim and Christian holy sites," Abbas said in a speech at the summit.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said the initiative was "a badge of shame" for Qatar.

"Objecting to 'Judaisation of Jerusalem', so to speak, is absurd and is equatable to an objection to the Catholic nature of the Vatican or the Islamisation of Mecca, it is naturally unthinkable," Palmor said.

UPDATE

The Aqsa foundation for endowment and heritage said that deputy speaker of the Knesset Moshe Feiglin called on the Jews to defile the Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday to celebrate their Passover festival.

This Bank and That Bank

I read this in a book review about Afghanistan and thought to myself, it is so appropriate to the recent history of the Land of Israel:

Brown and Rassler bring out the deep roots of the Haqqanis in the history and culture of this region, on both sides of the Durand Line, which was drawn up in 1893 by the British to mark the border between India (later Pakistan) and Afghanistan. As far as the locals are concerned it has always been largely theoretical. In the words of Jalaluddin Haqqani himself, “Our tribes are settled on both sides of the Durand line since ages. Our houses are divided on both sides of the border. Both sides are my home.”

Two banks has the Jordan River.

Montagu Returns

Judgment:

Error:

Montagu?

When the British Cabinet issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917, it was over the strenuous objections of its only Jewish member, Edwin Montagu...An assimilated Jew, Montagu regarded Judaism as only a religion, and viewed Zionism as a "mischievous political creed, untenable by any patriotic citizen of the United Kingdom."...The Jewish community was split. The Samuels and the Rothschilds favored the Balfour Declaration; Cohen, Magnus, Mountefiore and Montagu were against it.

The Ewe Was Arrested

Two were detained but the ewe was arrested.

_____________

Details:-

Jerusalem police detectives detained right-wing activist Noam Federman and others for questioning, Monday afternoon, and seized a lamb the activists wanted to sacrifice on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. Police cited them for transporting an animal without a permit.  Federman reacted by saying, "We demand to offer the Passover sacrifice, one of the most important commandments. The Jerusalem police are harming freedom of religion.

Ma'an agency claims:-

A group of settlers entered the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on Monday and performed religious rituals under heavy Israeli guard, a local foundation said.  Settlers accompanied by dozens of Israeli security forces entered the holy site early Monday, the Al-Aqsa Foundation for Waqf and Heritage said.  Israeli forces prevented Palestinian students from entering the area while settlers prayed at the site.

More Dire Warnings

Reported:-

GAZA, (PIC)– Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Committee in the Legislative Council warned of the current Israeli Judaization activities in occupied Jerusalem few days before the Jewish holiday of Passover.  Ghassan Mustafa al-Shami spokesman for the committee said in a press statement on Sunday that the Israeli Coalition for the Temple  * started, on these days, promotional activities as a prelude to the Passover Jewish celebrations, calling for accelerating the building of the alleged Temple in place of Al Aqsa Mosque.

The spokesman stressed that this Israeli institution works to intensify its activities during the current week and to intensify training programs to “sacrifice at the Temple Mount” in coincidence with the so-called Passover Holiday , which starts next Tuesday, which usually sees Israeli break-in to al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Shami pointed out to the Israeli Judaization activities that escalated in the occupied city of Jerusalem and al-Aqsa mosque especially during the Jewish holidays.

The Jerusalem Committee called on the Arab and Islamic nation to work urgently to save Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque and to take the necessary steps to stand against these Israeli activities that aimed to the destruction of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Ghassan al-Shami also called to intensify the Islamic presence at Al Aqsa Mosque, and to activate Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque issues through social networking sites and media...

On the Trees of the Temple Mount

Reported:-

A statement of the Supreme Islamic Council of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Jerusalem

Uprooting trees in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa assault on!

Jerusalem - The Israeli occupation police uprooted trees yesterday in the courtyards of Al Aqsa Mosque, during the night hours.

About this aggressive act of the Supreme Islamic Council of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs assert the following:

1. Emphasize once again that the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque is an integral part of the Aqsa Mosque.

2. The Israeli police occupation uprooting of trees is unacceptable and reprehensible and an assault on the maximum.

3. The Committee on the reconstruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic Waqf is authorized repairs and tree planting, etc., and does not need to take permission from the Israeli police.

4. The Israeli police is not her authority and competence in the subject Aqsa management.

5. We call on the Jordanian government to intervene to prevent the occupying powers of the attack on the maximum, as Jordan is the owner of the state of religious sanctities.

6. Call on Arabs and Muslims in the world to shoulder their responsibilities towards the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which for more than a billion and a half billion Muslims, and that does not leave us alone facing this continued aggression.

Bar Refaeli Marches ... to a Different Tune

Bar Refaeli marching to a different tune (the clip)*:

The other tune:

2010:

The Israel Defense Forces human resources chief Maj. Gen. Avi Zamir yesterday called for a boycott of products advertised by Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli.
Speaking at a lecture at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Zamir was asked why the army did not act against Refaeli, who married under false pretenses so she could evade military service. Zamir said that, according to law, he could not act against Refaeli. "She went and married a 37-year-old guy, so what can I do?" he said.
"At the end of the day," according to Zamir, "she is the one who has to look at herself in the mirror. We are a society that has an army, and Bar Refaeli doesn't have to participate in ads for Fox [clothing] - and if she advertises Fox then you shouldn't buy their products."

2013

IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai is upset with the Foreign Ministry's decision to feature Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli as the presenter of an international pro-Israel informational campaign – because Refaeli did not serve in the IDF.
In a letter to the Foreign Ministry Director, Brig. Gen. Mordechai asked that the campaign be canceled. "The choice of a representative who did not serve in the military as an official presenter on behalf of Israel, conveys the message that we ignore and forgive evasion of enlistment, and encourages identification, among youths of both sexes, with the success of those who did not enlist."

I've Got Your Back. Really?

A comment:

Barack Obama took part in a joint press conference with President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank this morning under a beaming banner of Yasser Arafat, also known as the “father of modern terrorism”. The Standard piece quotes from an extensive timeline of Arafat’s reign of terror, drawn up by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, reminding its readers of Arafat’s grim track record:
Groups under Arafat's direct or indirect command – including Fatah, Black September, Tanzim and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade – were responsible for hundreds of bombings, hijackings, assassinations and other attacks, including the 1972 murder of 11 of Israel's Olympic athletes in Munich, the 1973 murder of the American ambassador to Sudan, Cleo Noel, and the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruiseship (resulting in the murder of wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer).
It is simply astonishing that the leader of the free world would agree to speak against a backdrop of a murderous terrorist with American and Israeli blood on his hands. What kind of message does this send to America’s enemies when the president of the United States gives a press conference standing in front of a banner celebrating one of the most brutal terrorists in history? It projects a clear signal that Washington is weak in the face of terrorism, and it is an insult to the memory of those who died at the hands of Arafat’s terror network.

The Best Thing in the Past 2000 Years

No "Storming" on Shabbat (Just "Invading")

Reported:

Three Israelis attempted on Saturday to enter the al-Aqsa Mosque, according to a religious official in Jerusalem.

Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib said the Israelis tried to invade the compound of the mosque after climbing the roofs of nearby buildings. Guards and worshipers caught them but one fled.

Al-Khatib added that Israeli police arrested the two Israelis, aged 27 and 30, and after searching them found no dangerous objects.
