Entry Visas Denied To Human Rights Defenders/Peace Activists

No, not by Israel.

By the United States:

US denies human rights defenders visas

The United States has denied human rights defenders, working against terrorism and for peace, their visas to attend the upcoming vigil in Fort Benning, Georgia the base of the School of the Americas also known as the School Of Assassins due to its training program.

Two speakers named by SOA Watch's Latin American partners to represent them at the SOA Watch vigil (Nov. 19-21, 2010) have been denied entrance to the United States.

One of these speakers is Gerardo Brenes, a Costa Rican graduate of School of the Americas and activist with Quaker Peace Center in San Jose.

The other is Alejandro Ramirez, a university student and activist with the Youth Resistance movement in Hondura.

Both of these peace workers had their visa applications rejected by the U.S. embassies in their countries last week.

And you probably thought differently.

UPDATE

And Egypt, too:-

Egyptian authorities refused to allow 17 activists from the Viva Palestina convoy to enter the Gaza Strip. Those denied entry included Viva Palestina leader George Galloway, several activists who had been aboard the Mavi Marmara, Muslim Brotherhood activists, and participants in the confrontation with Egypt’s security forces in January 2010.

I guess the key phrase that upset the US gov., was "anti-terrorism".
